Oh, What a Beautiful Morning
The American Spectator ^ | 11.6.08 | R. Emmett Tyrrell, Jr.

Posted on 11/06/2008 5:17:26 AM PST by vietvet67

WASHINGTON -- What a wonderful morn! Campaign '08 is a corpse. Step gently around it. Offer a gentle wave of the hand to those poor wretches over in the corner looking forlorn and lost. Those are the political junkies. They have awakened every day for almost two years eager for the electioneering fray: first the primaries, where Hillary was "inevitable" and Rudy the likely Republican candidate. Then they heaved and sweated for Senator Barack Obama or Senator John McCain. Now the election is over, and they are in withdrawal.

Yet, most of the rest of us have reason to be relieved and frankly a bit proud of our country. Yes, the campaign was a blare of competing rhetorical sophistications. It was rare that either candidate uttered an applause line that did not either begin with a deceit or end with one. Senator Obama's yawp about giving 95% of us a tax cut is a comely example -- after all some 40% of his targeted audience pay no income taxes. And Senator McCain's rant against Wall Street for the financial crisis is another. The crisis began with those subprime mortgages from Fannie and Freddie and was exacerbated by cheap money and recklessly low interest rates from the Department of the Treasury and from the Fed.

Most of the rest of us can be proud of how this election has concluded. The United States has elected an African American to the presidency two generations after Jim Crow. There was no violence and very little playing of the race card. Senator Obama ran a deft campaign and his Chicago advisors created a formidable machine -- pardon the term.

It is amazing how easy things are when you do not watch the news or read too many websites.

I have watched not one minute of news and spent about 10 minutes each day on the web.

Life is indeed beautiful and I really thing the Republic will come out of this stronger than ever. I am not sure how but I have faith in US.

For now, we have a new president-elect. In the spirit of reaching across the aisle, we owe it to the Democrats to show their president the exact same kind of respect and loyalty that they have shown our recent Republican president.

Ann Coulter in this A.M.'s column.

I'm feeling a lot of things about this election right now, but frankly, pride in my country is not one of them. Oh I'm proud of the USA alright, but the fact that over fifty million people voted to take us on a socialist tack, farther and farther away from the way of life that made this nation great, led by a man about whom they know next to nothing, and who has never accomplished anything in his life other than getting elected, is deeply disturbing. These are difficult times, we're at war with animals who want to destroy us, and it seems that most Americans are only concerned with what can the government do for me?

The perpetual dem campaign is going full force for the midterms and the next presidential election.

Governing is not a priority, winning is the only priority.

"The crisis began with those subprime mortgages from Fannie and Freddie"

Must see video from 2004: Democrats Defend Fannie/Freddie from Regulation:
"We've been through nearly a dozen hearings where frankly we were trying to fix something that wasn't broke. Mr. Chairman we do not have a crisis at Freddie Mac and in particular at Fannie Mae under the outstanding leadership of Mr. Frank Raines."

I have always enjoyed reading anything written by Mr. Tyrrell and, usually if not always agree with him. This piece, however, is pure nonsense. Wake up, Emmett, your country has just been hijacked by a bunch of Marxist thugs and you’re sitting around engaging in happy talk! Pathetic!!

This is a strange column from Tyrell. What conservative can be "proud" of this country right now? Half its people have elected to the presidency a man who would not qualify to hold even a low-level security clearance. Now he will have access to and control our entire military, our entire infrastructure. The implications of this are so breath-taking they cannot be overstated.

Did Tyrell seriously say their was little playing of the race card?

“...we owe it to the Democrats to show their president the exact same kind of respect and loyalty that they have shown our recent Republican president.

Ann Coulter in this A.M.’s column.”

I understand this sentiment, but the thing is, we’re not (generally speaking) nearly as ugly and low-down dirty as they are, and I don’t think we should stoop to their level. They are the ones who wore t-shirts using the C-word to describe Sarah Palin, which enraged me almost beyond words. However, I intend to treat the office of the Presidency with the respect and dignity that they never afforded President Bush, even though the better man (IMHO) in this election will not be occupying that office.

At my job yesterday a couple of Obama supporters who not only share his political views but the color of his skin said they stayed up to watch the election results and popped a champagne bottle when McCain gave his concession speach. RIP America 1776-2008.

Tyrell does seem out of focus in some parts of this article.

IMO the race card was played from day one.

You said it all Rummy,

Took the words right out of my head. If Osamabama gets his way, this country will wind up flat on it’s back.

This Pie-in-the-sky rhetoric will get uglier and uglier as the Democrats push and install one radical plan after another. It stems for throwing the doors open at the border and allowing everyone to vote without verification, to free healthcare, housing and food for the “poor”. The rest of us will foot the bill until we become poor.

There will never be another fair election. It’s over, in a nutshell.

It nauseates me when people drone on about how wonderful it is the US elected a black man as president. But to have Emmet Tyrrell drone on! What’s got into the man!?

I think there must be something to the reports that Obamachev hypnotizes his audience. Then again, Tyrrell is aging and maybe going soft.

All this feel good crap will disappear when a mushroom cloud rises above an American city.
