While reading the lengthy time line for Obama, I found an almost offhanded statement that Obama has let his license to practice law lapse. Why would he do that? Isn't that really important to renew? Why would he not need it in the future? Is it because there were complaints and he just let it lapse to make them go away? Maybe the Tony Resko problem?
Maybe so he won’t get disbarred..............
Not a big deal. If he knew he was going into politics, there isn’t really a need to be a member of the bar - it isn’t like he was concerned about job security.
I’ve let licenses lapse. My reasons are not his clearly but it does happen.
Maybe the thought of renewing it smacks too much of that whole “working for a living” thing.
If you don’t have the law license then you can’t be disbarred..... ala Bill Clinton.

Agreed. It’s not like you just pay a fee every year to renew. There are requirements to attend a certain number of hours of continuing education, performing pro bono work sometimes, and maintain very expensive malpractice insurance. Only those who are working fulltime in the field can really gain by keeping the license active.
He couldn’t handle the CLE without an affirmative action program.
My husband is an elected official and hasn’t renewed his license. For the time being, he’s a public servant full-time and has no time to practice law.
Although with BO, who knows? There could be something insidious behind him. I truly believe he’s evil beneath his “let’s live as one” exterior.

I let mine lapse when I became a full-time stay at home mom. I didn’t want the extra expense of paying the annual renewal fee and all the continuing education seminars. I can reinstate anytime without penalty.

If he loses the election, he’ll make a lot more doing speeches. He doesn’t need his law license any more.
Probably had something to do with his lying about his aliases.
Like Judge Dredd, he is the law.

If it’s like the New York bar, you can keep your registration but have it labeled “inactive” if you’re not practicing so you don’t have to fulfil the Continuing Legal Education requirements.
I think he is a dope for letting it lapse, because it may be useful to him later if this whole Messiah presidency thing doesn't pan out. Writing the bar later in life, years out of school, is tough.
No need to work for a living when he and his wife have the gift of GRAFT to support them!
