ACORN to Get Funded in the DEAL
Senator Lindsey Graham

Posted on 09/25/2008 7:21:27 PM PDT by KCengineer

Senator Graham said on Greta that ACORN was going to get funds in the original deal.

It will be a cold day in hell if those leftist crooks get my tax dollars.

He said it twice. I have it on my DVR and here it is, verbatim: He said that “20% of the money that should go to retire debt that will be created winds up in a housing organization called ACORN, that is an absolute ill-run enterprise, and I can’t believe we would take money away from debt retirement to put it in a housing program that doesn’t work.”

That’s 20% of $700 billion, or $140 billion.

You were on a roll until your last sentence. It isn't 20% of the $700 billion, but 20% of profits, if any, from resale of the bad mortgage securities that the government would purchase with the $700 billion. Still, it's beyond an outrage. That money should go to debt reduction or be returned to the taxpayers.

I am pretty sure Obama’s community organizing job was with ACORN.

ACORN and the infestation of actual Marxists in the Democratic Party needs to be fleshed out and — over.

ACORN is the new Marxist plan, to organize disparate, locally based populations to become angry and vengeful as victims and move in their self interests, each to achieve socialist ends — coalesced and organized as it develops.

Right out of Dostoyevski’s playbook...

Hmmm, didn’t Obama work for ACORN with Bill Ayres in Chicago?

Yes he did. Moreover, according to the McCain campaign, Obama spoke for the Democrats during the White House meeting earlier today. Here is the money quote from their press release:

At today's cabinet meeting, John McCain did not attack any proposal or endorse any plan. John McCain simply urged that for any proposal to enjoy the confidence of the American people, stressing that all sides would have to cooperate and build a bipartisan consensus for a solution that protects taxpayers.

However, the Democrats allowed Senator Obama to run their side of the meeting. That did not work as the meeting quickly devolved into a contentious shouting match that did not seek to craft a bipartisan solution.

Reading between the lines, Obama himself probably pushed for this ACORN funding and the Republicans told him to go take a hike.

140 billion dollars for each of 50,000 families works out to about $3 million dollars per family. Hmm.

KOS is now trying to desperately spin this now!!!

That Obama was the ONLY leader in the room, and TRIED, oh so hard, to move this along.

“CNN said that Obama first tried to reason with Boehner, and ask him to detail what his plan was. After he did this, Obama calmly asked Paulson if it would work, and Paulson said that it definately would not work (which was why house republicans didn’t ask him about this at the meeting yesterday).

Obama continued with his attempts to salvage the mess that McCain created and refused to correct, but was unable. Again we see how much we need Obama and his leadership, and how disastrous McCain would be.”

The first housing bill funneled federal money to ACORN, too.

Here’s Bob Casey saying as much:

“Under the Democrats’ proposal, judges could approve individuals’ reorganization plans that would allow debtors to pay a lower interest rate for their primary-residence mortgages. Furthermore, if the value of the property falls below the loan amount, debtors potentially could reduce the balance of the loan to equal the current value of the property — a process commonly known as a “cram down” or “strip down.”

This is a very bad provision for a simple reason: The Govt is over-riding contract law and in so interfering, the government is managing to MAKE MORTGAGES WORTH LESS.

Now, what is the source of the banking crisis? Oh, thats right, mortgages that have fallen in value.

SO GOVT MEDDLING WILL MAKE A BAD SITUATION WORSE FOR HOLDERS OF MORTGAGES. And who will make up their losses? why the taxpayer of course, via the bailout where we buy these same loans from institutions.

Note also that the Dems already passed housing bailout bills, and we already made the Govt back up Fannie Mae mortgages.

Yikes.

An Untrustworthy Housing Fund — Housing bill has likely ACORN slush Fund http://www.openmarket.org/2008/06/16/an-untrustworthy-housing-fund-housing-bill-has-likely-acorn-slush-fund/

Excerpt....
And ACORN has also been sanctioned specifically for misuse of federal housing funds. In 1994, the ACORN Housing Corporation (AHC) received a grant from the newly created Americorps to assist low-income families at finding housing. In applying for the grant, the AHC claimed its activities were completley separate from ACORN.

But one year later, the Americorps Inspector General would testify that “AHC used Americorps grant funds to benefit ACORN either directly or indirectly.” She found several instances of cost-shifting from ACORN’s lobbying group to the housing entity, and also found several instances of steering recipients of housing counseling into ACORN memberships. (This report by the Employment Policies Institute contains the Inspector General’s testimony in full.)
