The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Friday shows the beginning of John McCain’s convention bounce and the race is essentially back where it was before Barack Obama’s bounce. Obama now attracts 46% of the vote while McCain earns 45%. When "leaners" are included, it’s Obama 48%, McCain 46% (see recent daily results).

While I agree with your statement, these polls do drive the poll-addicted liberals crazy. Just seeing this poll with Obama slipping and McCain gaining makes for a good day knowing the moonbats are flipping-out on this fine Friday.

I agree that normally the polls don't mean much, but a whole lot more people are paying attention this time. Polls really influence the uninformed too. So any trend that shows McCain/Palin are gaining or leading will help some of them jump on the Palin bandwagon.

In 1996, Bob Dole was behind 2 points the day after the convention ended. It was never again so close.

I think we'll see McCain/Palin get out to a healthy lead by early next week. And many here will be taking victory laps. But then I expect the bounce to fade, so those same people - still huffing from their victory laps - will be placed on suicide watch. :-) Political bipolar disorder at its finest.

Obama has the media and a ton of money. And it's a closely divided country. We all need to prepare ourselves for a close race and a tough fight. Anything else and we're just setting ourselves up for disappointment and panic (see earlier this week, before the Palin speech).

To some degree. But polls do give some indication of the shift in the opinions of voters. It is impossible to know who will actually vote and how representative the sample actually is.

Rush warned us to disregard these polls for a reason. A McCain bounce is going to dissipate or disappear and induce a sense of acute depression into the base. Its going to also create a false impression of momentum on the part of the Obama campaign where there is none. All the polls do now is shape opinion. They're not indicators of how the election will turn out.

Rasmussen is about the only tracking poll that has been reliable over the last few years.

If these numbers are true, then Senator Obama should be very worried.

Senator Obama has had incredible amounts of help from the MSM, yet this is the best he can do at this point?

And that is a 3 day rolling average of Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. I would imagine that the single day of Thursday has McCain/Palin ahead by 3 or more points.
