MINNEAPOLIS - Republicans are putting John McCain's campaign priorities above some of their pet issues, including drilling for oil in Alaska's Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and denying citizenship to the U.S.-born children of illegal immigrants.

Wonder how long after McCain takes office the highly successful ICE raids will disappear?
They even added some language recognizing the threat of global warming. I guess Juan and Fred were just ahead of the curve. LOL
NOTE TO ALL:
Read the platform first before judging it.
Way to may “Shoot first, ask questions later” type comments.

Members of the party’s conservative wing have been wary of McCain, in part because of his stances on immigration and global warming. Donald Devine of the American Conservative Union said he was satisfied with the draft.
``It’s certainly a vast improvement over the 2004 document,’’ Devine, vice chairman of the advocacy group based in Alexandria, Virginia, said.

Nice job!
O.K., fine. The Platform goes forward (I’ll accept that when I read it Monday, though) but the eternal problem remains - how do we get the RINOs elected (under pretense of supporting the Platform) to act on it?
I see it the same, Cal.
UH ... They dont. “Platforms dont mean anything” is the usual guide. So the best answer is we dump RINOs in the primaries...
ALAS... WE HAVE TROUBLE DUMPING OUR RINO GARBAGE...

Over at Reason.com, Radley Balko suggests that Ron Paul’s endorsement of Rep. Don “Bridge-to-Nowhere” Young may have made the difference in yesterday’s Alaska primary. Young hasn’t officially won yet, but he holds a small lead over conservative challenger Sean Parnell.
Thanks a lot, Ron Paul.
Write in the best man for the job. Yeah, I know all the arguments against it, I’ve used them myself...sigh.
When the Dems and GOP get enough voters not blinding marking anything with an R or D beside it’s name that they and the media put forth, they’ll get the message. It’s either that or go for the “same ol’, same ol’, gettin’ worse every day” that they keep sticking us with.
“Bob Barr still works for the American Civil Liberties Union”
Didnt know that ... but it figures.
Supporting the LP is just a bonkers idea.
Globaloney stuff was taken out. They have done much better on it in revision.
NRO has a guy reporting on the inside skinny on what’s going on. DO NOT trust the liberal MSM they always get it wrong anyway. See my previous posts, I have links to drafts and NRO articles.
PS. The 2008 platform will be tougher on immigration than 2004 platform. I think consrevatives will be pleasantly surprised. The Bush admin practically wrote the 2004 platform, this one is getting written by the party activists, the main deviations are word-smithing to not outright contradict McCain.
Well, I recall NRO being equally divided between Rudy and Romney supporters during the primary, so I won’t trust them either. Who knows, maybe the conservatives on the committee will manage to purge the global warming nonsense. We’ll just have to see.
Completely agree... Screw ANWR and even the offshore zones. Oil shale is what we should concentrate on, with 2 TRILLION barrels of proven reserves there. We’d have all the oil we need for 280 years.
And the illegal alien babies? I think they shouldn’t be given citizenship but the Constitution says otherwise. So I guess the platform needs to include a call for a Constitutional amendment, not just a stance of ‘we don’t like it so stop it’ - that’s not how it works.
I’m sure freepdom will perform a thorough evaluation on the finished product.
Driving home from the dentist today, I was thinking that exact questions. I think we should place some bets. You bet he’ll stop them. Someone might as well make some money off this tragedy.
Ummm .... what was that about the platform again?
“PS. The 2008 platform will be tougher on immigration than 2004 platform. I think consrevatives will be pleasantly surprised.”
Thanks for checking it out, WOSG, I hope you’re right.
It won’t phase McCain, but it would be nice just the same if the GOP got it right.
Ya shoulda been a diplomat !!
