U.S. moves to strip alleged Nazi's citizenship

The U.S. Justice Department has asked a Seattle federal court to revoke the citizenship of a Washington state resident accused of serving the Nazis.

Tuesday's complaint alleges that Yugoslavian-born Peter Egner, 86, in April 1941 joined the Nazi-controlled Security Police and Security Service in German-occupied Belgrade, Serbia, a Nazi mobile killing unit that participated in the mass murder of more than 17,000 Serbian civilians during World War II.

According to the complaint, Egner has admitted volunteering to serve in the Security Police and Security Service and guarding prisoners as they were being transferred to concentration camps. Egner also admitted serving as an interpreter during interrogations of political prisoners, which sometimes involved severe torture. Prisoners often were executed following their interrogations.

Egner came to the United States in 1960 and became a citizen six years later. The Justice Department asserts that his citizenship should be revoked because he concealed his Nazi service when applying for citizenship.

"The government alleges that Peter Egner served in a notorious Nazi unit that murdered thousands of Serbian Jews and other unarmed civilians," said Office of Special Investigations Director Eli Rosenbaum. "No one who particpated, as we allege the defendant did, in the diabolical Nazi program of persecution is entitled to retain U.S. citizenship.

why don't we try to figure out who's killing who now in 2008 instead of spending all this time and energy and money 60 yrs after the fact.....

I’m surprised Clinton and McCain don’t give the guy a medal of honor. If McCain had his way, he’d have sent thousands of ground troops to Kosovo and killed off a few thousand more serbs. The Nazi’s may as well have taken them all over since our government gave them away to the Muslim Terrorists anyway.

Maybe instead of worrying about old nazis, they should be concerned with the new ones.

"We cannot continue to rely on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives we've set. We've got to have a civilian national security force that's just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded."

So you want to give a murderer a free pass? I wasn’t aware the genocide had a stature of limitations.

I agree. No one who participates in or advocates the wholesale genocide of a people should be allowed in this country, much less be given citizenship. Anyone see where I’m going with this one?

I wasn’t aware the genocide had a stature of limitations = I wasn’t aware that genocide had a statute of limitations

Zotting Nazis has no statute of limitations. Participate in genocide, know that someone is coming after you.

Glad they are still hunting these dregs instead of ‘just letting it go’ that some suggest.

I can think of several punishments that still wouldn't do justice for the atrocities he committed, but the mods would probably zot me if I described them.

Be careful, you are using a fallacy of logic is one of the weakest. Going after this dreg of humanity in no way indicative of dealing with other criminals. They are unrelated.

I agree, Nazi scum must come to justice. But this is what I’m talking about. The Gov is more interested in going after some 86 year old geezer or a pencil-neck white guy who practices Mormonism 1800’s style than they are gang-bangers who are shooting up neighborhoods across America.

The Buchanan School of Logic.

What is the cut-off age for these genocidal lunatics?

I guess its easier for the US Justice Department to go after an 86 year old Nazi than hundreds of thousands of Islamofascists. There are plenty of undesirable immigrants here in the US but the Justice Department chooses to spend the money, time, and energy on chasing someone that committed a crime over 65 years ago. I guess the Nazi poses a significant threat to the nursing homes in his area.

I posted another article on this Nazi story last night, and this morning the thread had just disappeared. Poof! I hate when that happens because you have no idea why it did.

There is no statute of limitations on murder, let alone mass murder. Do not understand why anyone would even have a question mark on this.
