Prayers for Jim Robinson
May 14, 2008

Prayer Request

Jim Robinson is having surgery tomorrow, May 15th

See the posts below for information about this procedure.

Jim Update:

It has been a frustrating day, I finally have a update for everyone.

I called Jim at the hospital. The nurse was in his room and gave him the phone. Sheila took his cell phone to him so I will be able to contact him easier. Also they took his laptop.

Due to major pain killers, he was able to sleep in the bed last night and was in bed when I called.

He sounded better than he has for the past few months.
He will be there for at least one more night; maybe more depending on decisions being made tonight.

They may remove Jim's left leg at the knee tomorrow. The docs have told him that the poison in that leg is going to continue causing problems.

Jim is really reluctant to let them remove the leg but I told him that if it will relieve the pain and stop all the damage it is doing to his internal organs, he should let them take it. Jim cannot use his legs now. He only has limited use of his right leg and no muscle remains in his left leg. The muscular dystrophy has done a number on his muscles while he has been ill.

I hope this makes sense.

When I hear what the decision is, I will let you know. In the meantime, Jim needs our prayers tonight and tomorrow.

Father, hear our prayers.

Thanks for all the updates, Amy

I just talked to Chris and he said that Notpoliticallycorewrecked is visiting with Jim at this time.

He also said that the Doctors have decided that tomorrow Jim has to make the decision about his leg

The Doctors believe, as you stated, that it has to be removed to keep the infection from spreading.

So I imagine that is the decision he will make.

Don't worry about him getting online, he has an “air” card so he can get online anywhere.

He misses being able to read and post here tremendously naturally. This is his baby.

Good news that the swelling has gone down dramatically in his left leg and that for the first time in months he is not in pain 24 hrs a day and was able to sleep more than usual.

Chris had no idea how long he would be hospitalized, but I would imagine it will be several more days, especially if the operation on his leg is done soon.

Good advice you gave Jim, Amy.

Yes, Mama Bear don't hesitate to visit, it will be highly appreciated and encouraging to see such good friends as you and that jk I'm sure

Jim is blessed indeed to have family that are watching over him closely and taking care of his needs, getting him to the hospital and other numerous tasks

And the legion here that are pulling for him.

Today's short update:

I just talked to Jim; the surgery will be performed tomorrow. He doesn't know what time yet. He said he is feeling pretty good. Also, he slept off and on last night. May have been due to the stress.

I am going to try to see him this afternoon. He has some tests scheduled but he doesn't think they will take very long.

He is not allowed to have his laptop in the patient area so he cannot get online until he can get down to the lobby.

His words ..... "Please tell everyone how much I appreciate their thoughts and prayers. Oh Yeah ..... tell them I'll be back online as soon as I'm able.

Anyway, thank you for your prayers.

I am glad to know it is hard for you to read all these comments too...

I have a hard time even making the cards and getting them ready to mail.

I used the hospital address for the first days and now switched to the PO Box listed for FR. I was afraid the USPS would be so slow he might be home before delivery. I have experienced long, months, delays in forwarding mail from patients at WalterReed. Some was returned to me later.

I will be checking the PO and I may ask at the desk about forwarding mail or if I should stop by and pick it up.

The people there are very nice and friendly.

Sorry it has taken so long to get this update posted. I needed to resize some photos before I could post.

Husband, jkphoto, and I drove up to Fresno this afternoon to see Jim and I am very pleased to report that he is doing great! He was sitting in his chair (for the first time since his surgery) and we distinctly saw the same twinkle in his eyes, the same smiles and the same upbeat sense of humor that we have come to expect from our "Jim". We didn't want to monopolize his time, so only spent about a half an hour with him. We met his brother and another visitor who was just leaving when we arrived.

Jim says he is not taking the morphine anymore and is in absolutely no pain at all. He is anxious, of course, to be released (but, IMHO, he is doing so very well under the good care he is receiving at the VA hospital that I think he should stay as long as they will keep him. LOL). His nurse was in and out of his room several times during out brief visit. He is certainly getting lots of attention and TLC there.

Of course, he is so very grateful to each and every one of you for your concern and prayers. He said he fired up his laptop and came to the thread for awhile today, but there is apparently something wrong with his monitor......he said it just keeps fogging up on him and he just had to close it up and put it away for awhile. ;-) He says he will be posting an update soon.

Later, after we said goodbye to Jim, we met up with our good buddy Syncro at the Macaroni Grill and had a nice dinner. Syncro then headed over to see Jim and we left for the 45 minute drive home.

There is not much else to report, but I did take some photos, inside and out, of the military tributes, posters and artwork, etc., at the VA hospital and thought I would post some of them here along with the flowers in Jim's room.

I just can't stress enough how great Jim is doing. That's the power of prayer!
