The Italian Revolution

May 1st, 2008

We are in Italy. Sicily, actually. And we are watching something amazing: an Italian revolution. The new Parliament, sworn in yesterday, does not have a single member who calls himself “communist.” That’s the first time since World War II. Gianfranco Fini, the new speaker of the House, announced that the post-war era was over, and he was entirely right. No one knows it better than he, because for most of his adult life he has been called a “fascist,” and scorned by most of the writers, salon hangers-on, and politicians in the country, even though he led his right-wing party through a profound transformation from its neo-fascist past, embraced Israel, actively supported Jewish causes, and challenged the Left’s ostentatious support of radical antisemitic and anti-Israel terrorists. He dissolved his own party into Berlusconi’s umbrella organization, and is now one of the three most powerful politicians in the country. Wow.

There is more. In the last few days, the city of Rome fell to the Right. Once again, the leader was a former neo-fascist, Gianni Alemanno, who had abandoned the bad old ways. Alemanno defeated one of the Left’s most adored icons, Francesco Rutelli, who had twice before been elected mayor of Rome and who was heavily favored to win again. But Alemanno won by a huge margin, just as Berlusconi on the national level.

Why has all this happened? Above all, it is the result of the demonstrated incompetence of the Left to govern Italy effectively, along with the usual corruption scandals, and the Left’s snooty disregard for law and order, particularly regarding illegal immigrants. The people I’ve spoken to (in Sicily the Right also won an overwhelming victory) all basically said the same thing: the Left is a disaster, let’s see if these other guys can do better. It is not an ideological transformation; it’s above all a search for someone who can advance the interests of most Italians.

It’s kind of a Casey Stengel election. The Italian voters are asking if anyone around here knows how to play this game.

Looks like a trend in Europe: France, Italy, the UK have all shifted away from the Left. That’s good for us.

Meanwhile, here in the USA, we have our Democrat contenders who are promising redistribution of wealth every day to the cheers of the clueless who don’t realize that government equality means misery for everyone.

There is a strong pro Bush trend in global politics:

South Korea, France, Germany, Italy, and Britain.

GREAT line! May the USA fall ONLY in that way, in righteousness!

It's not a pro Bush trend. It's an anti what doesn't work in the real world trend.

"It's not a pro Bush trend. It's an anti what doesn't work in the real world trend."

Agree with that conclusion also. IMO, this doesn't have diddily to do with Pres. Bush. As you describe, its about what works and what doesn't. The leftist governmental tactics are not working and have driven these countries in a steady downward spiral. People are simply sick and tired of 'bidness as usual' and are voting for an alternative.

You mean like we did when we elected Reagan? Unfortunately, in our case, the "bidness as usual" folks never went away....they just re-grouped, gained more power, and learned better how to game the system. And so we got Clinton...

We've had a hard left since the 1960's that just won't go away, in spite of all of the proven failures of Marxism.

I was referring to the people of South Korea, France, Germany, Italy, and Britain and a few other countries around the world who have dabbled with socialism, or near socialism, and seen that the results can be disastrous politically, economically and socially. (Pardon the long sentence)
I may not have been clear as to the area of the world to which I was referring in my comment.

Continental Europeans are far ahead of the Anglos in recognizing the Shariah/Jihadist threat.

While they’re taking active measures to suppress Mohammedanism, Anglo nations continue their multicultural march towards Sharia.

Thanks for the ping. This is awesome! Although I have understood Communism in Italy as being a “let’s pretend” facet of their dramatic, meaningless emotional extremism, I’ve never understood how the rest of Europe could entertain Communism after seeing what happened right next door; but passivity and dependence on elites or government run deep there. Let’s hope this is a lasting trend.

Next on the agenda: Europeans return to church!! Europeans rediscover their Christian heritage and submit to the Holy Spirit!! Hope it doesn’t take another 60 years....
