ALAN KEYES FOR PRESIDENT: McCain sees nuclear as part of long-term answer [to oil dependence]

Presidential candidate Sen. John McCain was interviewed tonight by Greta van Susteren for her Fox News Channel show, "On The Record". She asked him what he can do, short-term and long-term, about rising gasoline prices. There's not much that can be done short-term, he said, because we're too dependent on foreign oil. But we can, in the not-too-long-term, develop hybrid cars, and develop a battery that will take a car 100 miles. "We can reemphasize and dramatically increase nuclear power", he added. "We can do so many things in alternate energy to eliminate our dependence on foreign oil."

COMMENT: Nuclear.com is delighted that nuclear power is held in such high regard by the presumptive nominee of the Republicans. There's many months to go before the election. I stood with other Freepers against Bill Clinton's many corruptions long before the Lewinsky story broke, which was years before you joined. You can call my party what you want, but I see no honor nor practical benefit in supporting the Republicans any more. George W. Bush was a much better president than I expected, and for that I am grateful. But my expectations were pretty much nil for him, and are even lower for John McCain. Maybe you and George Soros will be happy to vote for the same guy. So who's a stocking horse for whom?

If you disagree with Alan Keyes on important matters, I hope you'll talk about them. Maybe you think McCain-Feingold campaign finance law is great. Or maybe you think Lieberman-McCain CO2 cap bill is great. Or maybe you like anybody who gets an "F" grade from Gun Owners of America. Speak up, by all means, for what you believe warrants your voting for McCain.

I saw your tag line. You apparently want to absolve yourself of responsibility for the selection of the candidate for whom you apparently urge folks to vote. The election is eight months away, and you apparently have given up hope of doing better than the candidate for whom you don't want to be blamed. And you apparently do this because you've observed that 3rd parties have benefited Democrats in recent decades. I prefer to see these eight months as an opportunity to let tens of millions of my fellow Americans get a chance to see and hear Alan Keyes on the same debate platform as McCain and the Democrat, and any other candidate who polls well enough to be included in the debates. I think the more folks know about Keyes, the more likely they are to vote for him, because he is thoughtful in analyzing issues and persuasive in describing his conclusions.

Anybody who can't stand the thought of Hillary or Obama being President has at least that in common with me. McCain said Hillary would make a good President. The only kind thing I can say about McCain, after watching him in the Senate these many years, is that its possible he may justly be considered a casualty of war.

Sorry man, Keyes had his chance against Obama. 2004 Senate, Illinois.
Obama - 3,597,456 - 70%
Keyes - 1,390,690 - 27%

Same year:
Kerry - 2,891,550 - 55%
Bush - 2,345,946 - 44%

2002 - A sacrificial lamb year for Illinois Senate
Durbin - 2,080,411 60%
Durkin - 1,320,621 38%

Keyes ran 17% behind Bush in one of his weakest states. SO many people who voted for Bush voted for Obama against Keyes. He ran 11% behind Durkin in another democrat year in Illinois, 2002. Durkin was a sacrificial lamb and got what should be a bare minimum in Illinois. That's not counting the fact that Keyes has run numerous times for president in the past and went nowhere each time.

I'll go so far to say that I blame two people more than anything else for making Obama into a media star. One is Jack Ryan for screwing up and letting Jeri Ryan get away (dropping out of the race), and the other is Alan Keyes for carpetbagging and running a Charlie Foxtrot of a campaign.

Keyes needs to back out of running and go back to the speaker's circuit where he does best. He gave us Senator Obama. I don't need him to give us President Obama.

Dear Darren - all else being equal, one could expect similar results. But this year already has many significant guaranteed differences from prior elections, and there’s still eight months to go. That’s significantly longer than the entire 2004 Keyes campaign in Illinois — he agreed to run 86 days before the election in that case. Eight months is a very long time.

But nothing gives me more hope than my abiding belief that with God, all things are possible. I’ve never had a whit of desire to attend a political convention, but I’ve made my hotel reservations for the Constitution Party’s Kansas City convention. I don’t even know whether or not I’ll get to be a Maryland delegate yet. But these times seem extraordinary to me, and if I don’t support the only candidate who comes close to representing my views, well, I’m not satisfied with displaying a “Don’t Blame Me” bumper sticker or tagline. A vote for McCain would be a vote to give the global governance crowd the keys to our economy and way of life, via carbon dioxide controls. I can not imagine ever casting such a vote.

As to castigating Keyes for carpetbagging in Illinois, I respectfully and wholeheartedly disagree. My take on it is that he accepted a challenge and displayed great courage. Who would you have preferred to have been placed on the ticket by the Illinois Republican Party?

A couple of facts : US buildings use 1/3 of the energy produced, and it takes 3 KW in the power system to deliver 1 KW to your electrical panel. If every building in the US was super-duper insulated the demand for new energy supplies would drop dramatically. Also, fish have tapered tails, semitrucks have flat backs(thus enormous drag from turbulence), why?

Keyes was screwed royally by the RINOS in Illinois.He was not even given a chance to distribute his litrature state wide. Caused the same people who gave Sen Fitzgerald so many headaches and played a key role in him deciding to quit. Then state GOP chair Judy Barr Topinka, Jim Edgar,and Jim Thompson, (McCain backers) If you want to talk about losers look at Topinka's count when she ran against soon to be indicted Blagoyavich.

What bothers me most about conservative attitudes towards Keyes including some talk show hosts (wtmj's am 620 Charlie Sykes for example) when his name crops up is they are repeating the same mantra which was offered by MSM and echoed by Topinka and company .

When Keyes gets criticized on his Illinois race thats the reason and I've taken Sykes as much as I respect him for the great work he's doing in Wisconsin to task in my website http://www.theusmat.com/ for failing to dredge up the dirty deeds done to Keyes by Illinois RINOS ...As far as Keyes positions on social issues go they're not much different and than Huckabee's and no reason to be vilified as Keyes has been..But I am sticking by the old man as the lessor of two evils. Keyes is a loser pure and simple. It isn't just his loss in IL but look at all his attempts, MD, Presidential primaries and IL. The voters have rejected him by huge margins yet he can't understand that. That makes me wonder about his judgment or ability to recognized the landscape.

As far as a 3rd party effort I agree with you totally that is a recipe for disaster. Those spending time and effort on a 3rd party effort know full well they can't win and that the President is going to be elected from either the Republican or Democratic nominee.

Down ticket candidates from the local to the state to the Federal level is where we need to place a lot of effort. It is these positions that will help conservative hold ground and reduce losses that can be induced via the President and his/her policies.

I'm one of those who voted against Keyes about 20 years ago in Maryland Republican primary for Senate race. If I had known more about him then than what the local paper reported, maybe I'd have voted differently. I do know more now, and I'll do what I can to inform others that they have a broader choice than McCain or one of the other liberals in the race.

Does your comment, that 3rd party can't win, mean that you disagree with my previously voiced (in this thread) motto: "With God, all things are possible."? I think Keyes would be a great President and I think he can win by running as nominee of Constitution Party.

I have felt foolish on occasion in the past, such as when I supported the Dole-Kemp ticket. The campaign waged by those fellows seemed like as big a zero as could be.

I've very much enjoyed the Keyes campaign public conference calls on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 10 pm ET. When I dialed in the first time a few months ago, I didn't consider it might be possible that my very high esteem for Dr. Keyes could be raised. But after hearing him answer questions thoughtfully and thoroughly night after night, I do indeed support his candidacy more now than any time prior - including the days I enthusiastically voted for him in 2000 and 2008 Republican presidential primaries.

Alan Keyes will campaign with enthusiasm for the principles I hold dear, starting with the Declaration of Independence's statement that we are endowed by our creator with certain unalienable rights. If elected, I am convinced that he will keep those principles in mind when it comes to making the many decisions that a president must make. If this election is important, as I think it is, I would be doing my fellow Americans and all our children a disservice by not helping others learn of Keyes' candidacy.

Nuclear power always comes with a risk of a meltdown. I'm afraid I'm going to have to be NIMBY about this issue. Especially being on the West Coast, where we get frequent earthquakes.
