:::FreeRepublic's Threat Matrix:::
Calculating the Risks in Pakistan

A small group of U.S. military experts and intelligence officials convened in Washington for a classified war game last year, exploring strategies for securing Pakistan's nuclear arsenal if the country's political institutions and military safeguards began to fall apart.

The secret exercise — conducted without official sponsorship from any government agency, apparently due to the sensitivity of its subject — was one of several such games the U.S. government has conducted in recent years examining various options and scenarios for Pakistan's nuclear weapons: How many troops might be required for a military intervention in Pakistan? Could Pakistani nuclear bunkers be isolated by saturating the surrounding areas with tens of thousands of high-powered mines, dropped from the air and packed with anti-tank and anti-personnel munitions? Or might such a move only worsen the security of Pakistan's arsenal?

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “A “sophisticated cyberattack” has been detected at Oak Ridge National Laboratory over the last several weeks, and authorities suspect the hackers are based in China.

The breach might have compromised the personal information of thousands of visitors to the lab, according to a communiqué sent to employees.

The intrusion is under active investigation by multiple agencies. FBI and Department of Homeland Security officials tell ABC News they believe the attacks originated in China with Chinese entities probing U.S. systems.”

Al Qaeda use of the web spreading at an alarming rate

Al Qaeda has established a firm presence on anywhere between 5,600 and 17,000 Web sites, and could add as many as 9,000 more sites a year unless nations agree on ways to counter the terrorist organization.

Journalists in Al Qaeda Airlines hoax

Two journalists walked into a Romanian airport wearing Al Qaeda Airline uniforms and put fake bombs on planes. An investigation has been launched after the pair entered Baneasa Airport in Bucharest dressed in hats and overalls marked "Al Qaeda Airlines". Alexandru Cautis and Catalin Prisacaru, from the Academia Catavencu newspaper, drove into a supposedly secure staff car park unchallenged.

They put fake bombs on passenger planes before going to a section of the airport which is used by the military. They walked around a Hercules plane being prepared for take-off before leaving, again unchecked by anyone.

Guantanamo Bay 4 freed to come to UK despite US fears of terror risk

Government pressure has secured the release of four Guantanamo Bay prisoners who had British residency rights at the time of their detention, despite Pentagon concerns that they still pose a terrorist risk, it emerged last night. Three men are expected to be back in Britain before Christmas. Another detainee, Shaker Aamer — who the US Defence Department alleged recently had links to the “highest level” of al-Qaeda — will go home to Saudi Arabia.

National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day, 2007
A Proclamation by the President of the United States of America

White House News
In Focus: Veterans

On December 7, 1941, our Nation was viciously attacked at Pearl Harbor, America’s Pacific Fleet was battered and broken, and more than 2,400 American lives were lost. On National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day, America honors those brave individuals who made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our homeland, and we recognize those veterans who with strength and resolve defended our Nation and advanced the cause of freedom during World War II.

When it mattered most, an entire generation of Americans stepped forward to protect our freedom and to defend liberty. Their devotion to duty and willingness to serve a cause greater than self helped secure our future and our way of life. Liberty prevailed because of the sacrifice of these courageous patriots, and America and her allies preserved a world where democracy could flourish. Our Nation remains forever in the debt of these brave Americans.

From the unprovoked attack at Pearl Harbor grew a steadfast resolve that has made America a defender of freedom around the world, and our mission continues as our men and women in uniform serve at home and in distant lands. Today, as we defend our Nation’s founding ideals, we pay special tribute to those who lost their lives at Pearl Harbor, honor our veterans of World War II, and celebrate the liberty that makes America a lasting symbol of hope to the world.

The Congress, by Public Law 103 308, as amended, has designated December 7 of each year as “National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day.”

NOW, THEREFORE, I, GEORGE W. BUSH, President of the United States of America, do hereby proclaim December 7, 2007, as National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day. I encourage all Americans to observe this solemn occasion with appropriate ceremonies and activities. I urge all Federal agencies, interested organizations, groups, and individuals to fly the flag of the United States at half-staff this December 7 in honor of those who died as a result of their service at Pearl Harbor.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this

fourth day of December, in the year of our Lord two thousand seven, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and thirty-second.

GEORGE W. BUSH

Statement by the Press Secretary on Energy Security
White House News

We believe that reducing our dependence on foreign oil and increasing energy security is an area where both parties should be able to find common ground. Unfortunately, Democratic leaders in the House today pushed a partisan bill, that members had very little opportunity to study before the vote, which they knew was unacceptable to the President and had no chance being signed into law. Their proposal would raise taxes and increase energy prices for Americans. That is a misguided approach and if it made it to the President’s desk, he would veto it.

In his State of the Union Address last January, President Bush laid out a bold vision to reduce our nation’s consumption of gasoline by 20 percent in 10 years by greatly expanding the use of alternative fuels and modernizing our fuel economy standards. We can achieve much of his “Twenty in Ten” initiative without legislation, but we prefer a bipartisan approach in Congress that will improve our economic and energy security while protecting the environment. We hope the Senate will take a more cooperative approach and put forth a bill the President can sign.

You're welcome!

Detention Retention

Asked "Are you a member of al Qaeda?" he responded: "I don't know. I know I am an Arab fighter."

About a third of detainees admit facts that offer significant--though not always adequate--support to the government's contention that they are "enemy combatants." About a third deny everything. And about a third make no statements at all.

Muslim clerk says sexy clothing is emotional abuse for men

Malaysia's Muslim men are suffering sleepless nights and cannot pray properly because their thoughts are distracted by a growing number of women who wear sexy clothes in public, a prominent cleric said.

Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat, the spiritual leader of the opposition Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party, said he wanted to speak about the "emotional abuse" that men face because it is seldom discussed, the party reported on its Web site Wednesday.

"We always [hear about] the abuse of children and wives in households, which is easily perceived by the eye, but the emotional abuse of men cannot be seen," Nik Abdul Aziz said. "Our prayers become unfocused and our sleep is often disturbed."

Nik Abdul Aziz has made controversial comments about women in the past, including that women should stop wearing lipstick and perfume to lower the risk of being raped. Women's groups have slammed his statements, saying Islam teaches both men and women to be responsible for modesty. They say comments like these encourage rapes because it puts the onus on women.

WOW.

Thanks.

I guess the jihadi’s are so weak willed; so clueless; so lust obsessed; so shallow . . .

that they have no choice but to be OVERWHELMED by their sexual obsessions, sex-demons etc.

Plausible given that the founding was from a demonic moon god and their founder was a child sex-abuser.

Two teenagers were taken off the flight and arrested before the flight could take off and fly into Brussells.

An Irish politician who was on board the flight called for the airport and airline to review safety and security measures.

Mary White, deputy leader of the Green Party, claimed the teens shouted abuse and threatened passengers with a bomb, while one urinated on board.

Exposing the “Flying Imams”
by M. Zuhdi Jasser
Middle East Quarterly
Winter 2008

[snip...but you’ll want to read it all...]

My Experience with the Phoenix Imams

I have known three of the plaintiffs in the U.S. Airways suit for almost a decade. Soon after settling in Arizona in 1999, I became involved in the local Muslim community. Before moving to Scottsdale, I usually attended Friday congregational prayer services at the Islamic Community Center of Tempe, Arizona. Often, Ahmed Shqeirat, now the primary plaintiff, delivered sermons at the mosque where he has long been imam. I was struck by the political nature of his sermons. He repeatedly criticized both U.S. domestic and foreign policy and often exaggerated Muslim victimization. He advocated political unification of Muslims internationally and blamed the United States, Israel, and the West for perceived slights. He called for the political empowerment of Muslims in American society.

After hearing several sermons, I spoke and wrote to him to express my dismay at his emphasis of political over spiritual topics. He responded that “secularism is Godlessness” and asserted a right to “speak about political injustice.” The concept of purely spiritual Islam and creation of an intellectual environment welcoming to all Muslims regardless of political persuasion was anathema to him.

To give one example of his abuse of pulpit, during a Friday sermon in April 2004, he displayed an image, which CAIR had distributed, of an American soldier in Iraq with two young Iraqi boys. In the photo, the soldier held a sign saying, “Lcpl Boudreaux killed my dad, then he knocked up my sister.”[15] Shqeirat neither made any attempt to verify the image’s authenticity nor to determine, if real, whether it was representative. Nor, when he was asked, could he explain how such a display related to Islamic theology or spirituality. The goal of using faith identity to divide society highlights the incompatibility of Islamism with traditions of American culture and society.

I had similar concerns regarding the sermons of Marwan Saadeddin, another plaintiff, whose sermons I heard in the Phoenix Valley. Following the U.S. Air 300 incident, Saadeddin spun the incident to the media[16] and transformed it into a parable of victimization during a Friday sermon at a Phoenix Valley mosque. During the sermon, I heard him say, “I’d rather be dead than removed from an airplane in handcuffs.” Such is the political and fanatical ranting of one of Arizona’s leading imams. As is common among Islamist preachers, he substituted politics for theology and spirituality.

I also know Omar Shahin, another imam plaintiff. He resides in the Phoenix area and has been the head of the Valley Imam Council of Phoenix, the former imam of the Islamic Center of Tucson, a teacher with the Arizona Cultural Academy, and the imam of the Islamic Center of the East Valley. His hyperbole is typical of the Phoenix-area Islamists. He called the day of his eviction from the U.S. Air flight “the worst day of [his] life,”[17] a statement far more forceful than any he issued after the 9-11 terrorist attacks in New York and Washington, the March 11, 2004 train bombings in Madrid, the July 7, 2005 London bus and Underground bombings, or in response to any Al-Qaeda video seeking to justify the murder of Americans and noncombatants in the name of religion. Indeed, he blamed the 9-11 attacks not on Muslim terrorists but on the CIA and FBI.[18]

There should also be concern regarding the involvement of some of the imams with Islamic charities shuttered because of their terror financing. Shahin was the Arizona representative of Kindhearts and the Holy Land Foundation, both of which the U.S. Treasury Department shut down because of their involvement with Hamas.[19] Saadeddin dismissed Hamas connections as any reason for concern, recently stating that, “Hamas has nothing to do with [the] United States. Talk about Al-Qaeda only, because this is where they hit America ... [If] America consider[s] it—the foreign policy of America consider[s] Hamas—as a terrorist. That’s their business.”[20]

Explosive found in schoolboy’s bag (Sydney, Australia)
7 December 2007

A HIGH school in Sydney’s east has been locked down after an explosive device was found in a student’s bag.

The principal of the school in Randwick called police about 11am (AEDT) to say a device had been found in a boy’s bag.

The police bomb squad has been called to the school, with paramedics and fire crews.

Students have been evacuated from the school, which adjoins another campus.

Workers from nearby council chambers have also been evacuated.

Police said a 14-year-old boy was being questioned.

No further details are available and police would not confirm the name of the school.

Comment is being sought from the NSW Department of Education.

That's their story and they're sticking to it! Can you imagine their horror at the scantily clad women along the beaches in California and Florida? A line of customs questioning should be required for male ME immigrants (visa or otherwise) to weed out potentially "overwhelmed" men who obviously would not adjust in any capacity to American society without feelings of inner turmoil at life as it is here.
