WASHINGTON, (AP) -- House sponsors of a resolution that would label the 1915 killing of Armenians a genocide have asked Speaker Nancy Pelosi to delay a vote on the measure because they feared it would fail.

Support for the resolution deteriorated this month, after Turkey recalled its U.S. ambassador in protest and several lawmakers said they feared it would cripple U.S.-Turkey relations.

"We believe that a large majority of our colleagues want to support a resolution recognizing the genocide on the House floor and they will do so, provided the timing is more favorable,"

F turkey - They screwed us at the last minute before Iraq.

Besides what are they gonnna do? Invade Iraq? Invade Cyprus?

They already did!

The Turks have been vicious despots for thousands of years and they understand only one thing.

Pretty soon they’ll be in Vienna and we’ll still be saying “But if we say “Genocide” it will offennnd them!?!?!!”

Congress should be delayed for the same reason.

Treason is always despicable but this despicable attempt to stab our soldiers and marines in the back is particularly despicable.

New York Times, APRIL 18, 1915: KURDS DISGUST THE TURKS. The Latter Protest Against the Atrocities of the Former . . . engagements between Armenians and Kurds are frequent in the vicinity of Van . . . Turkish soldiers and even the younger of the Turkish officers are protesting against the countenancing by higher Turkish officers of the outrages committed by the Kurds. There are several instances of Turkish soldiers having lynched Kurds guilty of unusual atrocities.

So why no talk of the Kurds' active role in the genocide?

... and why no talk of the German complicity?

Special Cable to THE NEW YORK TIMES. ". . . there may be no trustworthy evidence to prove the complicity of the German Government and its agents in these terrible atrocities, yet the German Government, having regard to its influence in Constantinople cannot be acquitted of moral responsibility unless it can be shown that it took vigorous and energetic measures to prevent these crimes . . . 'We have no official confirmation,' said Lord Crewe, of the allegations that German Consular representatives have not merely looked on but have possibly managed these horrors. Statements to that effect have, however, been freely made by American observers . . . .

... and this: 'German Responsibility in the Armenian Genocide: A Review of the Historical Evidence of German Complicity' by Vahakn N. Dadrian.

Why?

None of this shifts virtual total blame away from the Turks of that era. It's just a couple of questions.

It's not the bribery -- as long as it's our bribery of Congressmen.

Of course Armenia has its own Diaspora, advocacy groups and Congressional caucuses. Almost every country in the damn world tries to have their way with our Congress.

Wouldn't you agree that that is wrong? It's our Congress!

Long before I read Prof. Huntington's "Who Are We?" I became disgusted and outraged at the various diasporas, their advocacy groups, and their Congressional caucuses. Prof. Huntington discussed how this has too often screwed up our foreign affairs. (I will add that it has also screwed Americans as often the diasporas lobby for their countries' advantages over America. China, India, and Mexico are the worst offenders IMO.)

Country A's citizens living here lobby and advocate publicly for penalties against country B. B fights back the same way using its citizens living here.

Enough already! Go home and fight!

Are they still trying to do this in spite of the possibility of serious war in the north of Iraq?
