One of my four brothers graduated from the University of Iowa, but being an African American male, I don't think I want to spend too much time in the Hawkeye State. Only about 2 percent of Iowa's population is African American, but blacks are 13.6 times more likely than whites to be imprisoned there. That's more than twice the national average, which is bad enough

Maybe it’s not a way to reduce crime but it IS a way to concentrate it apart from us.
But stuffing them full of criminals is the way to reduce crime. The salient characteristic that lands prisoners in jail is not their race but the fact that they are, by and large, criminals.
Sarcasm or not it seems to be where this is leading. I guess the solution (in liberal land) is to incarcerate an equal number of whites?
How does the rate of incarceration compare with the rate of arrests and of convictions?
Are they serving time for crimes that other races are given a pass? I don’t thing so!
Change black culture. Change the culture that glorifies the thug life and denigrates respectability. Change the culture that shirks manly responsibility and encourages young black men to impregnate as many young women as are willing to let them. We don't need to change white culture and our attitudes towards blacks...you need to change the reality that breeds that attitude.
Welcome to FR!
It must be whiteys fault ever notice every black area their are bars on their windows to keep us out.Yep its whiteys fault.
I agree. Stuffing prisons with criminals, no matter what shade or sex, however, is a proven way to reduce crime.
?
I’ve got a modest proposal for this author - and for every other softheaded liberal out there. When he or she is born, every African-American in America gets one get out of jail free card. On the second offense, the liberals shut up and we appease the Nation of Islam ... we institute whatever penalty Sharia law demands for the offense in question.
Deal?
Nope, I know your joking, but any form of Muslim law near my property will be shot in the face. I dont care what form it’s in.
MLK — “I look forward to the day when my children will not be judged by the color of their skins but by the content of their CHARACTER.”
Same goes for criminals.
Hey Harold! Ya got ripped off by that Univ. They don’t put blacks in jail genius. They put criminals in jail. Duh.
Harold,
I have a clue for you about about blacks being 13.6 times more likely to be in prison than whites.
Because they did the crime! Their guilty. Equal justice under the law baby! I’ve known a lot of people that didn’t have money that didn’t solve their problems by doing drugs, robbing, mugging and raping other folks. Your whine about poverty is smoke screen for a much more serious problem in black culture.
I’d suggest you read the statistics from the DOJ for last 35 years but that would probably interfere with your preconceived idea’s of justice.
Get a clue!
When black culture stops praising the brothers for capping a cop and busting a ho, maybe, just maybe people might believe your line of B.S. Black culture needs to clean itself up from the inside out and stop blaming whitey for it’s failures. Nobody’s going to employee a brother when he can’t speak proper English and the crotch in his pants is even with his knees with his butt hanging out.
That victim line of crap is so old it does cut it anymore.
Vote for another democrat maybe they’ll throw more money at the problem instead teaching responsibility.
Jeez, oh poor me, I’m an eternal victim because I’m black, not!
Simple things, like get an education, stay with the woman you get pregnant and try going to work every day aren’t being taught to our kids. Instead, hangin on the street corner and smokin crack and blamin society cause I can’t get a head and I’m a victim cause I’m black are.
Education, hard work, personal responsibility are the key to personal success.
Your article is pathetic, Harold. Although I’m sure your are intelligent and obvious write quite well you sound like just another whiney ass, liberal, who’s part of the problem instead of the solution.
As I recall, it was actually Gilbert who was the brainchild of most of Beaver’s misfortunes. I think Gilbert is the one that should be incarcerated.
I wonder if it was poverty that caused his lack of judgement...
Black, White, Yellow, Purple...do the crime do the time.
Alrighty...so the writer has seen no VALID crime statistics that are the proof in the pudding. All cause and effects aside, blacks commit crime at a phenomenally higher rate than other racial groups. But of course that is simply untrue in his eyes.
But numerous scholars have correlated crime to conditions of poverty - and African Americans remain disproportionately poor.
Which leads us to the second part of this gents' statement which completely contradicts his previous sentence. If AA are disproportionately poor, which is true, (thank-you liberal welfare state and the racist, race-baiting black leadership at almost every governmental level) then it follows that the only conclusion that can be drawn from the two points following each other is that blacks DO disproportionately commit crimes.
What a standard, grade a racist this columnist is.
I like that post. I am a european white guy. My current boss is black and very intelligent. (also a decent man). The previous owner of the DOD contractor that I worked for was also black (and a very decent man). The need of attention is causing the majority of the behavior that leads to prison. LBJ did alot of harm to the black community and it took only one generation to see the effects of his policies.
As soon as the black community halts its toleration of violence glorifying rap, hip-hop and gangsta crap, perhaps their males will grow up NOT thinking that violence is how to solve a problem.
Nothing RACIST about that. It’s a CULTURAL problem and before the problem described by the writer of this piece can be solved, they’ll have to clean up THEIR act.
One Bill Cosby spoke out about this very situation and was called an “Uncle Tom” and an “Oreo Cookie” for his trouble, proving again that no good deed goes unpunished.
Without injecting race into this (I have a dream, remember?), I do know that there is a direct correlation between the drop in the crime rate over the last decade and the increase in the number of prison cells available over that same period.
