WASHINGTON - Pushing back against the Democratic-led Congress, President Bush vetoed a bill Wednesday that would have eased restraints on federally funded embryonic stem cell research.
Democrats, who had made the stem cell legislation a top priority when they took control of the House and Senate in January, were quick to denounce the president's decision.
"This is just one example of how the president puts ideology before science, politics before the needs of our families, just one more example of how out of touch with reality he and his party have become," Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, D-N.Y., told the Take Back America conference of liberal activists Wednesday.

And this quote is from a member of congress that has a disapproval rating of 71%
What this says is that the American people don’t want to use federal tax dollars for stem cell research.
What Hillary seems to be saying is that the American people are out of step with Congress because we don’t agree with her/them.
But wait — congress is supposed to be in touch with the American people. Congress is totally disconnected from those of us who are pro-life. And 71% of us disapprove with what congress is doing and how they are doing it.
I, for one, can’t wait until election day!

Actually the more consistent policy would be to ban use of federal funds to pay for in vitro fertilization. There is nothing to prevent of prohibit private research funds from doing stem cell research on the cells you are talking about. Of course privately funded research sources typically expect results and thus would be more likely to focus on the areas where research has actually demonstrated some promising results.
Too bad he’s just vetoing it cuz it’s a ‘stem cell’ bill. Why not veto every one of these ‘research bills’? Politics and science mixing is no better than politics and anything else mixing..

So AP reports the fact of the veto and immediately quotes Democrats attacking it—without first quoting anything the President said to explain his action.

You’re right. I didn’t draw the distinction in funding.

They used this tactic this morning on ABC Good Morning America program to confuse the sheeple and not differenciate between embryonic and other stem cells.
