A Trail of Slime..(Thomas Sowell)
Human Evants ^ | 04/17/2007 | Thomas Sowell

District Attorney Michael Nifong has apologized to the Duke University students he indicted for rape for "judgments that ultimately proved to be incorrect."

Contrary to the fashionable phrase, "mistakes were made," there is no reason to believe that any mistake was made by District Attorney Nifong in this case, or that he misjudged anything other than miscalculating what he could get away with.

Nothing that Michael Nifong did is consistent with his ever believing that the Duke University students were guilty. If he really thought they were guilty and expected to go to trial and convict them, then the rigged photo lineup he arranged could have been enough to get the case thrown out of court.

This column predicted in April a year ago that this case would never go to trial because it was obvious even then that discovering the guilt or innocence of the accused was not District Attorney Nifong's real goal.

What served Nifong's purposes was keeping this case alive long enough for him to win his election as district attorney.

A real lineup, conducted according to well-established rules, could have revealed early on that the stripper who accused Duke lacrosse players of rape didn't have a clue who they were. That would have killed the case and destroyed Nifong's trump card -- the race card -- for winning the black vote.

The district attorney's failure to interview either the accuser or the accused for months likewise suggests someone who was more concerned with avoiding the premature collapse of his case before election time than with finding out what really happened.

Ironically, it was a black taxi driver who provided the first evidence that the charge was false.

Okay now, Oprah.

You are absolutely right to expose the disgusting remarks of Don Imus, to reveal the grace and dignity with which Head Coach Vivian Stringer and the Rutgers Ladies reacted to it, and to explore the disgrace and vulgarity of demeaning popular music lyrics.

Now, you should also expose, reveal, and explore the injustice done to the Duke lacrosse players.

Injustice is injustice.

Disgrace is disgrace.

Dr. Sowell is approaching his late 70’s and his mind is sharper than 99% of the population.

His life story is interesting. As a NYC college student, he was a committed marxist, until gobsmacked by logic and reality. He came to Chicago for graduate school (studying under Milton Friedman), and the rest is history.

Milton Friedman a great man.
We are just beginning to understand the mind this man had.
Thought process and logic truly and unfortunately not common place.
Friedman will live, through his writings, and those of his students.

“Contrary to the fashionable phrase, “mistakes were made,” “

That was the same thing Benteen said the day after Custer’s Last Stand.

Nifong should be criminally prosecuted for this outrage, and utterly destroyed financially.

Jesse Jackson to Pay False Accuser’s College Tuition

Reverend Jesse Jackson said that his Rainbow/Push Coalition will pay the college tuition for a black stripper who made false rape allegations against white members of Duke University’s men’s lacrosse team. Jackson said that his organization is committed to making sure the 27-year-old divorced mother of two will be able to “convert her considerable creative skills into a more lucrative and less demeaning career.”

North Carolina Attorney General Roy Cooper has declared all charges against the Duke players will be dropped. DNA tests on all 46 of the lacrosse team’s white members failed to match any evidence taken from their accuser. Cooper characterized Durham County District Attorney Mike Nifong, the originator of the case, as a “rogue prosecutor.”

Nifong defended his actions, saying he based his case on both history and instinct. “Look, white men have been raping black women for centuries,” Nifong explained. “If President Jefferson did it, why should I doubt that these college punks would do it? Why, I was tempted to do it myself when she reenacted the dance she did at the team’s party. My gut told me they were guilty. I just didn’t have enough time to produce the evidence I needed to complete the case.”

Jackson said that the “rush to exonerate the innocent has caused nearly everyone to overlook this woman’s tremendous talent.” “Despite considerable exonerating forensic evidence, this woman was able to convince a white prosecutor to accept her allegations and prosecute these white boys,” Jackson pointed out. “She also got 88 members of the Duke faculty to make a public statement condemning the lacrosse team. I’m telling you, she’s one persuasive mutha. There’s a future for her in my orgasm if she wants it.”

The woman, Crystal Gail Mangum (alias: Janette Rivers), is currently a student at North Carolina Central University. Mangum says she appreciates Rev. Jackson’s tuition offer and hopes to use it to pursue a major in “the performing arts or maybe creative writing.”

The sad thing is that I was on the fourth paragraph before I was sure you were kidding. It was the word “mutha” that blew it.

(That’s so ‘80s! “Baby-Mama” is the 90s term. — I’m presuming I’m a decade behind on black lingo.)

You didn't know that the photo lineup was only of members of the Duke Lacrosse team - so that Ms. Magnum was presented with a "multiple choice test" in which (so Nifong thought) there were no wrong answers?

One of the main reasons the case failed was that one of the answers she picked that "couldn't be wrong" happened to be wrong since that particular guy had a solid alibi with a time-stamped ATM picture of himself a mile away from the scene of the "crime."

Sowell concludes that Nifong's main chance was that the Duke men would plead out. His whole scheme was to pressure everyone and make them fold. "Slime" is too good a word for Nifong - and anyone in journalism who couldn't see that, was unwilling to see it. He should go up the river.

Nifong didn't care about truth, he only cared about appearances. That makes him a typical liberal.
The idea around which liberalism coheres is that NOTHING actually matters except PR.
Since "liberalism" is simply the journalist's word for the attitudes which are convenient for journalists, Nifong is atypical of liberals primarily in having been caught.

At this point, aside from the fact that Nifong is still on the loose and still has a license to practice law, the salient thing that should be redressed now is the finances of the families of the innocents Nifong wrongly accused. Shouldn't there be a fund to which the people can contribute which would make them whole financially - and hopefully with enough left over to finance a campaign to make them whole in a PR sense by pursuing libel action against the Duke 88?

Can FR legally do it?
