Iraqi insurgency groups declare intention to drop arms -- president BAGHDAD, March 31 (KUNA) -- Iraqi President Jalal Talabani affirmed on Saturday that the leadership was holding continuous contacts with armed groups in a bid to persuade them join the national conciliation political process and renounce usage of arms.
Talabani, speaking at a ceremony marking credentials-delivery of the newly-named American Ambassador to Iraq, Ryan Crocker, and the new Japanese ambassador, affirmed that some of the armed groups expressed desire to join the process of normalization in the country.
"Some organizations that consider themselves as part of the national resistance have contacted us and expressed readiness to drop the arms and join the political process and we have welcomed them," Talabani said.
Yes it is. See insurgencies do not end like regular wars. They always end with a political settlement. This is going to really piss off the Freeper Arm Chair Generals but this is how Counter Insurgency works. Call it what ever you want, this is the Iraqi Insurgency's Surrender Conference.
I'd accept the word of the terrorists on one condition: If they accept the deal and if ONE Iraqi or American is killed, even if by accident, then the deal is off, negotiations are off, and they will be hunted like dogs....
BTTT!
Sucker Bait!!! They know that it's only a matter of time (a short time) 'til the DemoRATS and the RINOs embarass us out of there and they'll be ready to start their terror again. Everyone is falling for it. Not surprising. There will be another Saddam-type in power there within a year after we leave, and here we go again. So, all of a sudden they want peace??? Think again.
ping....too soon for a declaration of victory, but this is a good sign/positive step
Barring a RAT WH house we're not leaving. Even WITH a RAT WH we may not leave.
We'll be out of Germany before we're out of Iraq.

Spoken like a true armchair general...glass houses and all....you're funny tee hee hee.
Nice you have feelings, stop confusing them for facts. This is exactly how ever successful Counter Insurgency ends. Counter Insurgency is not Total War. There is going to be no victory parade, no peace treaty signing ceremony. These sorts of limited wars do not end that way.
BTW, do you suppose maybe you might actually try posting an intellectually valid serious comment one time instead of just wandering around making rabidly stupid, childish Junior high school level personal attacks?
See unlike YOU child, I actually have the educational and military background to know what I am talking about while you are just a petulant screaming idiot.
Now go away you stupid little twit or I shall taunt you a 2nd time.
Actually you are breaking the Truth In Advertising Laws here. You are a Moron 1st Class and should label yourself as such.
Probably, but we've already been in Germany for over 50 years. I hope we don't have to stay in Iraq that long.
For one thing the Iraqi ladies are not up to the Fraulein standards, and even the friendliest Iraqis, save the few Christians that are left, don't want their daughters having anything to do with Infidel GIs.
It is ashame that only FREEPERS will see this story.
But the insurgents have to believe they are beaten. They have to see no "light at the end of the tunnel". Right now, the 'Rats are shining a laser beam down that tunnel that could be used to knock out incoming ballistic missiles.
I guess you missed the story about the Sadrites who are back filling into Baghdad with fresh Iranian training.
.
But I point out to you this story is about the Sunni Insurgency not the Shi'a Militas. You solve one problem at a time Freeper, one problem at a time.
Who can argue with those reasons!
The problem is many here don't (really) understand that this is counter-insurgency. That means they are constantly..disappointed with the way things are going.
Looks like the Dem's need to step up the US surrender process before all the "insurgents" decide to call it quits! What would it look like for them if the insurgency actually worked?
Nice home/about page, MNJ. You make cogent points for staying in Iraq.
