'Cave entrances' spotted on Mars
BBC News ^

Posted on 03/17/2007 1:05:05 AM PDT by BlackJack

Scientists studying pictures from Nasa's Odyssey spacecraft have spotted what they think may be seven caves on the surface of Mars.

The candidate caves are on the flanks of the Arsia Mons volcano and are of sufficient depth their floors mostly cannot be seen through the opening.

Details were presented here at the Lunar and Planetary Science Conference in Houston, Texas.

Temperature data from Mars Odyssey's Themis instrument support the idea.

The authors say that the possible discovery of caves on the Red Planet is significant.

The caves may be the only natural structures capable of protecting primitive life forms from micrometeoroids, UV radiation, solar flares and high energy particles that bombard the planet's surface.

The spacecraft spotted what seemed to be vertical "skylight" entrances to caves below the surface.

Then we better check them for Osama Bin Laden and his friends.

Evidence of subterranian Lave flows
reaching the surface?

Where, pray tell, do these scientists
think that these elemental life forms
came from, that they could blossom
in these "caves"?

Where did the light come from? ..Hmm! Does this seem strange to anyone else?

Okay, first off I'll start with a quote that I've been using a lot here recently. "There are two possibilities, either we're alone in the universe, or we aren't. Each is equally frightening."

Now...there are two theories of life: creation and evolution. I know I'm starting a little basic but it seems like a good place to start, the beginning. Unfortunately the two theories are mutually exclusive. One theory is supported by science, the other by faith. If either one proves true, it will shatter the followers of the other.

The only way to end this debate either way is to find life on another rock. Preferably outside this solar system. Well...I guess we could prove the existence of God, but most will agree that would be impossible (until the apocalypse of course). I'm not sure what to think, but I do know that if we do find life outside of this planet, it will cause a massive upheaval in the world.

I was trying to write a paragraph here about my predictions either way, but I couldn't make it sound neutral.

My money would be on the same source that life on Earth came from.
