TEHRAN (Fars News Agency)- Commander of the Iranian army's naval force reported of the might and preparedness of the navy for engaging in a war of attrition and striking blows at the enemy's key vulnerable points.

Commander of the navy of the army of the Islamic Republic of Iran Admiral Sajjad Kouchaki who was addressing the enthusiastic host of worshippers in the course of Tehran's Friday prayers today on the occasion of the navy day, referred to the US objective behind stationing its troops in the Persian Gulf region and raising Iran's nuclear activities as an excuse and added that the Americans consider no boundaries for their greed and demands and that they should be aware of the fact that they will certainly experience a strategic surprise in this region.

Commander of the navy of the army of the Islamic Republic of Iran further referred to the recent victory of the Lebanese Hezbollah and expressed the hope that in their analyses of affairs the Americans will consider the recent resistance shown by the Lebanese Hezbollah in order for them to realize what has taken place in the defensive literature of the Middle East, the Shiites in particular.

He further added that the presence of the occupiers and invaders in the region not only has turned the security atmosphere of the Persian Gulf into a challenge rather the illegitimate presence of the occupiers has faced the regional security with a serious crisis.

Kouchaki termed security of the Persian Gulf a key issue for Iran and the entire world adding that the significance of this vital waterway has been integrated into and tied with the independence, sovereignty and values of the Islamic Revolution, therefore any negligence in this regard will entail negative consequences.

Yeah, I think there is something up their sleeve. I heard on a talk radio show awhile back that some reporter in India claims to have traveled to afghanistan and interviewed taliban that says they have some pretty nasty stuff hidden away here in America and they time is very near when they will be using it.

Add to that the apparent final warning required by islam to infidels just before attacking that I heard Bush received from Iran and It kinda makes you wonder.

This sort of bullshit is aimed at the Iranian public... the point is the all-powerful nature of the Iranian forces and the shield that they provide the public against US wrath.

As if.

One of the funnier of these stories featured the new Iranian super-plane last year. I recognized the plane immediately: it was a copy of the Osprey, a two seat amphibian sport plane built of wood.

Some Iranian copied the plans and they're cranking them out in Iran, making claims (including "stealth"... suuuuure) and the worst of all is, the poor guy who designd the thing, George Pereira, doesn't even get paid. The Iranians just ripped off his design. (By the way, he gets a couple hundred for a set of plans... George isn't getting rich of hobbyists building Ospreys in their garages).

Muslim extremist morality in action. Not to mention, Iranian engineering. There are good Iranian engineers, mind you; it's just that most of them have US citizenship by now.

As another poster hinted, in the event of war with Iran, an Iranian sailor would be well advised to wear his life jacket at all times. The crews of the Iranian subs have fewer options... there is not enough time for them to evolve gills.

...the Iranians have the upper hand if it came down to a naval engagement. It would be wise to tread there with caution.

Sure would be a hell of a scenario for a fleet of battleships.

If Iran wants a naval scuffle, they'll get one. We could move our carrier groups outside of Sunburn range and let the carriers do their thing; bomb the bejeezus out of their missile batteries, ships and whatever else they want to light up. Sunburns have a range of what, a little less than a hundred miles? F-18s have a longer range. Our guys hunted Soviet subs, I have confidence they can find a few Iranian ones.

We don't have to play their game. They are the ones limited in their options.
