University of Pennsylvania president Amy Gutmann threw her annual Halloween costume party at her home Tuesday night. Among the guests was Saad Saadi, who came dressed as a suicide bomber, complete with plastic dynamite strapped to his chest and a toy automatic rifle. Worse, Gutmann posed with Saadi!
An obvious question: would Gutmann have posed with a guest--or even allowed him into her house--if he'd dressed as Adolf Hitler or a Nazi SS officer? A KKK member?
But in modern liberal circles, posing as a Palestinian suicide bomber (see his kefiya) is just fine. After all, he mainly tries to kill innocent Jews.
Actually, you seem to be unfamiliar with the running of universities. Thank goodness the university president isn't in charge of most of what goes on at a university. Most of them are stuffed shirts and their fancying that they are in charge of a university would only harm the institution.
University presidents are primarily figure-heads and fund-raisers. Regarding them as the 'adult in charge' and be incensed at them for the actions of students is a bit like being incensed at the Queen of England for football hooliganism.
And yes, they are equal: in the eyes of the law, in the eyes of God, in terms of each being responsible for his or her own actions, the President of the University of Pennsylvania and a student of age of majority under the tutelage of her faculty are equal.

Thank you for taking the time to share with me your concerns about the
photographs taken at this week's Halloween costume party.
Each year, the President hosts a Halloween party for Penn students. More
than 700 students attend. They all crowd around to have their picture taken
with me. This year, one student who had a toy gun in hand had his picture
taken with me before it was obvious to me that he was dressed as a suicide
bomber. He posted the photo on a website and it was picked up on several
other websites.
The costume is clearly offensive and I was offended by it. As soon as I
realized what his costume was, I refused to take any more pictures with him,
as he requested. The student had the right to wear the costume just as I,
and others, have a right to criticize his wearing of it.

I find her response/excuse unbelievable.
Her response is the same nonsense statement released to the press today.....
I just hope that various government agencies have that halloween party guy on some serious watch lists.

It’s “shocking” for someone to be dressed as a bomber because....bombers are bad and it’s not funny to the victims?
I guess that’s the conservative look at it.
For liberals: suicide bombers are Moslem Arab and it’s mean to imply they’re all bad bombers.
Either way, we have to stop this stupidity of being offended by everything - for any reason.
