She has been very active in the district and has attended many functions in the months since announcing her running in March. Her campaign has had upwards of a thousand volunteers talking to people one on one.

I love how Murtha uses the excuse "the way I have done it all the time", ....
I betcha he has said at least once or twice that President Bush needs to not do things the same in Iraq...."time for a change" and all that rhetoric.
So....President Bush is the ONLY one required to do things different in your book, congressman???

Jack Murtha refuses. His official response was, 'My record's out there for everyone to see
I've done it the same way all the time.' This alone is enough to run with. Murtha says no matter what he's done, he'll do it again... logically, that means he'll solicit bribes (Abscam) and slander our soldiers (Haditha) again if given the opportunity.

WOOHOO! I was counting down the days on my calendar but this thread is a better idea. Hope it's a place us out-of-staters can stay up to date on campaign events.

It is possible that Murtha doesn't know his support is dwindling or that he knows he is in trouble but has calculated a debate as counter productive, but typically the #1 reason not to debate is you have the lead and you don't want to lose it. It does not bode well that Murtha is refusing to debate.

If Murtha refuses to debate Ms. Irey it only shows to me that he does not believe in his own stance. If he did, he would proudly debate her. Then I could respect him, even if I did not agree with him. He's quite sleezy.

I Spy Murtha Ping! The babbling Congressman from PA's 12th District was just shown in a clip on Hannity & Skeleton. Tubby was sputtering incoherently about Abu Ghraib and the old coot could barely complete a sentence and looked like he was going to break down and cry at any moment. I think Diana Irey is getting to Murtha big time!

As much as I loathe the man's words and actions, at the same time I hope his defeat will give him the opportunity to slow down, go home, and rest.
Whenever I see him now, he reminds me of the old boxer who refuses to quit the ring, always hoping for the comeback, never realizing his time has past.
With the old boxers, it's sad to see. It's too bad Murtha isn't just an old boxer, it would be better for all of us.

I know what you mean about him getting wound up and somewhat incoherent. I've commented before on his possible mental state but I believe he's got a definite problem with high blood pressure or something similar, his face gets red and he seems flustered or confused. He doesn't look healthy.

I'm betting that Murtha is going to feel Sonny Liston this November.

Murtha's response to Diana Irey reminds of that great song in Monty Python and the Holy Grail about Sir Robin...
Brave Sir Robin ran away.
Bravely ran away, away!
When danger reared its ugly head,
He bravely turned his tail and fled.
Yes, brave Sir Robin turned about
And gallantly he chickened out.
Bravely taking to his feet
He beat a very brave retreat,
Bravest of the brave, Sir Robin!
He is packing it in and packing it up
And sneaking away and buggering up
And chickening out and pissing off home,
Yes, bravely he is throwing in the sponge...
