If this guy was so facile that he fell prey to some guy on the radio ... well ... He kinda looks likes like the kinda "guy" who'd agree with the last opinion he heard.
Do not insult the poor monkey. The monkey is far better looking than Jim. I'm going to report you to the ASPCA!
If you zoom in on the photo, you can barely make out the lobotomy scar.
Or boink him!
"[Laughs]. I believe that's how they feel. I know I did. Rush makes you feel like an insiderlike you know what's going on politically and everyone else is an idiot. Having been a dittohead I can tell you that the only benefit is you really know one side of an issue; you know nothing about the other side of that issue. You maintain a blissful ignorance about anything that disagrees with your worldview."
Wrong on 2 levels. The first is that Rush is the only source of news. Heck, I've listened to Rush only on occasion, since I have a day job that keeps me chained to an office mostly. I get the New york Times view *EVERY DAY* in the newspaper, via CBS top-of-hour news, via NPR, etc. (which I listen to as much as I listen to Rush, but which I'll never say "dittos"; rather the last Daniel Schorr oped I heard I was fuming at his outrageous calumnies against Bush over Katrina - same ol' crap.
The second way it's wrong is that Rush *does* tell us what the liberal media is saying. He *does* quote the liberals, and he even has liberal callers. He then slices and dices what they are saying, with satisfying ripostes that enable us conservatives to get the news *without* having to do violence to the TV or radio in frustration!!
What separates Limbaugh from the other right-wing talk show hosts?
"What makes him special is that he's the originatorthe one who framed the debate for the right. He spawned this entire right-wing media empire and to a large degree it still looks to him as the voice of the movement."
WoW. What an exagerration. First, lets acknowledge that Rush Limbaugh did make modern conservative talk radio more than any other radio personality. He's #1 in that. But before Rush there were folks like Bill Buckley of National Review, there was a somewhat important President called Ronald Reagan. There were conservative think tanks, etc.
What we lacked was balance in the media. Rush provided just a little bit of that.
" A lot of people ascribe these really nefarious motivations to him, but I don't think he's evil. I think he developed a worldview that made sense to him, and by the time he took to the airwaves it was a very polished easy-to-understand message. It worked well for him in the early 90s when Clinton and the Democrats were in charge."
"What has happened is that since the Republicans have taken power he has become an apologist for a party that is no longer conservative at all."
Wrong. I recall particularly that Rush lambasted Bush on the steel tariffs back in 2002. More than anyone in the media he made the correct points about why it was wrong. Not a big populist issue, but the right conservative call. So too Rush has challenged the President, as have the whole conservative base, over immigration.
" Plus, a lot of the principles Rush espouses have been destroyed by reality. For instance, lowering taxes is supposed to equal more federal revenue, but for the first three years of George W. Bush's administration, federal revenue declined every year."
And SINCE THEN???? Tax revenues went up 20% since then.
The Tax Cuts helped the economy enormously, and our growth is fastest of the OECD economies in the last 4-5 years.
"That's the first time that has happened in the history of this country."
Wow, he talks like lower tax revenues is a bad thing. hmmm.
" Now Rush is defending his principles reflexively, even though there's not a whole lot he can point to that supports them. "
Same can be said for this author.
I think his opinions need to be considered, analyzed, dissected, corrected.
What his personal opinions on politics are and how they have changed is of little importance, but his descriptions of the right-wing media are wrong and should be corrected.
It's wrong.
I disagree with most everything he says, except perhaps that Savage is crazy.
I mean, what makes Limbaugh special is he was the first? Geez, I thought it was because he has perfected the combo of entertainment, information and political gossip.
bump for later read
and Rush is one hell of a broadcaster (in purely technical terms)
This is par for the course before every election cycle.
They have the news stories for "the religious left".
Remember in 2004 they had some white haired author who had a similiar "conversion"?
It seems this one is targeted for helping Err Amerika.
Silly leftists, much of Rush's audience IS the left.
That supposes democrats possess a compelling, appealing idea. Barney the dinosauar already has dozens more good ideas than democrats ever will.
Total crap. Nothing but lies. Every single sentence is nothing but DNC talking points and "conventional wisdom" that spews forth from the left.
It's a leftist view of the conservative movement. It's another tactic like calling into the talk shows and saying, "I'm a Republican and voted for Bush BUT...." then going off on the usual liberal tirade.
This is evident in the first paragraph when he lets the author descibe him as a Rush fan, "who uncritcally accepted the ideas Rush advocated on his syndicated national radio program."
Anyone that is a true Rush fan thinks for themselves. This proves the author is lying scum and if the person he is writing about truly exist he's an idiot. It again assumes a "dittohead" is someone that just follows like a "mind numb robot".
You'd think after 18 years of Rush himself pointing out their error on the "dittohead" term they'd learn. Oh, wait...they're stupid left-wing Dems.
"Since you mentioned Hannity, I'd like to ask about a few other right-wing media commentators. What comes to mind when you hear the name Bill O'Reilly?
The funny thing is that if you are a conservative you don't consider O'Reilly to be a conservative commentator. "
Well, the other funny thing is that (a) he is not a conservative he's more a populist independent, and (b) he's says he's not. So to a liberal, he sounds "right-wing" conservative - *yawn*.
Who wants a political party telling voters how to think and vote? It works the other way around -- voters should tell the party.
I don't believe this guy was a Rush listener.
He starts with the premise that Rush listeners don't think.
Obviously he never was a true listener. Blind obidience is disqualifier number one for being a ditto head.
"ditto" is just a way to not waste time praising the host, it does not mean you are a carbon copy.
LOL, there's probably a lot of truth there... the dems just go in to snag a few medals to make their campaign credentials look good, preferably Purple Hearts.
"Anyone that is a true Rush fan thinks for themselves."
DITTOS ON THIS. :-) :-)
There is nothing 'mind-numbed' or mindless about informed consensual agreement.
Yup, bttt.
