Irish company challenges scientists to test 'free energy' technology [Oh Yeah!]

An Irish company threw down the gauntlet on Friday to the worldwide scientific community to test a technology it has developed that it claims produces free energy.

The company, Steorn (http://www.steorn.net), says its discovery is based on the interaction of magnetic fields and allows the production of clean, free and constant energy -- a concept that challenges one of the basic rules of physics.

It claims the technology can be used to supply energy for virtually all devices, from mobile phones to cars.

Steorn issued its challenge through an advertisement in the Economist magazine this week quoting Ireland's Nobel prize-winning author George Bernard Shaw who said that "all great truths begin as blasphemies".

Sean McCarthy, Steorn's chief executive officer, said they had issued the challenge for 12 physicists to rigorously test the technology so it can be developed.

"What we have developed is a way to construct magnetic fields so that when you travel round the magnetic fields, starting and stopping at the same position, you have gained energy," McCarthy said.

"The energy isn't being converted from any other source such as the energy within the magnet. It's literally created. Once the technology operates it provides a constant stream of clean energy," he told Ireland's RTE radio.

McCarthy said Steorn had not set out to develop the technology, but "it actually fell out of another project we were working on".

One of the basic principles of physics is that energy can neither be created nor destroyed, it can only change form.

McCarthy said a big obstacle to overcome was the disbelief that what they had developed was even possible.

"For the first six months that we looked at it we literally didn't believe it ourselves. Over the last three years it had been rigorously tested in our own laboratories, in independent laboratories and so on," he said.

"But we have been unable to get significant scientific interest in it. We have had scientists come in, test it and, off the record, they are quite happy to admit that it works.

"But for us to be able to commercialise this and put this into peoples' lives we need credible, academic validation in the public domain and hence the challenge," McCarthy said.

if these guys, while in the process of doing something else, observed a phenomena that they were not expecting, that defies the laws of physics as we know them, and they cannot explain it, and it is reproducible; is it not worthy of study?

Unfortunately, so much of what passes for research nowadays is the molding of data sets to fit pre existing conclusions for the purpose of garnering grant money in perpetuity.

Serendipity is often summarily dismissed as faulty results.

The conservation of energy law has been valid for many centuries ...

... or since the beginning of time, whichever came first.

Has anyone here checked out cheniere.org? Look, the universe is supposedly 2/3 "dark energy" or the ZPE, basically "tired photons" bouncing around in this lowest floor/burbling sea, of the energy universe; physicists refer to it as "quintessance". What's so hard to understand about that? By rapidly jerking the A-B field the MEG gets 100:1 output over input, demonstrated for years now. It's explained as a "windmill" turning in a "wind" you never knew was there. There are already several variations of this vacuum energy downloading out there, these guys in Ireland hae found one more. You don't want to believe it? Fine, keep on paying for $3+/gal gas, your fuel taxing government LOVES YOU....

Looks like the Brass Street at the covered bazaar in Istanbul. Worth the trip.

"As bazaar as this sounds, I don't see a problem with requesting a review process. Debunk the dang thing and move on."

Same thought I had. It's the exact opposite of saying, "I have something fantastic but you can't see it." Gotta give 'em credit for that.

On the other hand my second thought was, why not make a car or anything using the technology and prove it yourself?

The belief that it's not possible is not the biggest obstacle.

The biggest obstacle is...

It is impossible, you pack of morons!

It never ceases to amaze me that when someone creates a revolutionary product they can't use the device to make money. If this works, they should just create a prototype and do the things they just claimed they could do, instead of having some one look at it first.
Of course. If they really had something, they'd build a small demo, get some intial investors, build a bigger demo, get some big investors and after awhile they'd have a product and a market and they'd never need the "blessings" of the scientific community.

But of course they've got squat, so they have to squawk-a-lot.

Just attach a flux capacitor, step down the power to a mere 1.21 jiggawatts, and away you go...

It's all tied up with string theory.

Hmmm, but are you sure this will work with the hydrogen re combiners in combination with the flux capacitor?

Naa. Cold fusion actually works. This is baloney.

They don't need "credible, academic validation in the public domain", they need a working product.

Apparently they don't believe in it enough to invest any time and money into developing a product.

"This is not passing the smell test even slightly. Nothing wrong with a review of it, I suppose, if only to get the kooks to be quiet. Reminds me of that cold fusion debacle a few years back."

I suppose this idea could be considered stupider than cold fusion---though not very much stupider. Don't forget how the cold fusion fiasco ended. The Utah State Legislature came up with another 1 or 2 million dollars to give these two guys running the scam---but they had already vanished! They've never been heard from since.

These people have some kind of magic trick. One of the keys to this kind of situation is---they bring in qualified physicists, but physicists are not necessarily the best people to debunk a magic trick. They need to bring in that guy who makes a living debunking all magic processes---can't remember his name. I believe he is both a physicist and a licensed magician.

Another possibility is that these people have secretly corrupted a respected physicist somehow and will "plant" him among the testers. It's got to be some kind of relatively fast sting, I would think. "Due to overwhelming demand, we are only able to make this extraordinary ground-floor investment opportunity available for the next 24 hours...Please wire cash via Western Union."

"Look, the universe is supposedly 2/3 "dark energy" or the ZPE, basically "tired photons" bouncing around in this lowest floor/burbling sea, of the energy universe;"

Physicists don't know what "dark matter" or "dark energy" is or does, so why should the average person?

There are several theories to explaim the accelerating expansion fot he univers, but none are yet very satisfactory. It could be some sort of low energy matter, some extra-dimensional force, or the warping of spacetime itself (kinda like rolling downhill)

Earlier this year I discussed this with Dr. Sylvester Gates (father of supersymmetry and world reknowned researcher in cosmology and superstring theory).

He doesn't know what you suggest everybody should know.

I asked him if it was possible for energy to be transferred between our dimensions and those additional 6/7 dimensions. he said that not only is it posible but that it will likely take the form of particles.

So I asked if that energy could be the source of the accelration. He said they thought about that several years ago, but that now it may be worth reconsidering the idea.

We still do not have even fully satisfactory mathematical frameworks to explain the physics of the universe. We have to change our assumptions and frameworks everytime we change the scale or nature of our investigation.

I am not convinced we even properly understand our current dimensions, nor the affects of space. We do not even understand all the properties of space. (yes, space has properties that affects the flow of energy)

Cosmology is in a bit of turmoil right now (since 1998). We cannot explain the acceleration; we cannot explain how we came to exist aqs life when so many universal constants had to assume very precise values. The slightest variation in any one of 12 or more constants would mean life could not exist, or even that protons, neutrons, atoms might not exist (no coalescence) thus just sheer clouds of energy.

To account for some of this they bring up ideas like the multi-verse to hamdle the huge improbability of our existence. (a very, very unsatisfying theory but practically the only one currently available that does require the pre-existence of a Creator)

Even superstring theory has not been experimentally validated.

So if some website is stating such grand facts about the cosmos then they are leading you on. They are full of it, and have some other agenda to take your money, no doubt.
