Frum is working real hard to make this into a big deal. The guy is relentless.

I'm convinced that Miers will be a positive addition to the court. And I think that having Republicans self-destruct over this -- prior to even having hearings -- is unwise.

and I am convinced that if the she really was, the best person the president could find, then he didn't look any further than arm's reach. At a time when Bush should be showing strong leadership, he capitulates and give the 'Rats a mulligan.

7 of the 9 were chosen by Republican Presidents who told us not to worry. The definition of stupidity is doing the same thing over and over and expect a different outcome.

I'm convinced she will not.

Time to wake up and smell the coffee!

Is it possible that Frum is worked up because he has first hand knowledge having worked with Miers and the White House staff and he knows how huge a mistake this nomination is?

I don't know about you, but I feel like the PUBS have deserted me with this nomination.

Offending your supporters has real-world consequences. With one grave misjudgment, George W. Bush has shattered the coalition that brought and returned him to power in 2000 and 2004.

A bit of an overstatement, imo. Conservatives still revere Reagan, despite two DISASTROUS SCOTUS picks. Conservatives still lambast Bush I, despite one TERRIFIC SCOTUS pick--they won't forgive him for Souter. (The pick was very very weak.)

Conservatives need to take a breath--listen to Miers, and if she turns out to be a reliable Constitutionalist on the court, I would like to see a full-page ad expressing an apology to the President and Ms. Miers. (It won't happen.)

One thing is for sure: Bush ought to be right about her, having known her for so many years. Another thing is for sure: abandoning the most conservative of the two parties isn't good for anyone: liberals routinely put up liberals on the courts. Surrender to liberals means liberal courts forever.

The big question is, where is Frumm coming from? He's way far off the deep end. Farther than the now-silly-shrillster Ann Coulter. When this is over there's going to be some new people on my list of never read (joining the august company of Molly Ivins and Maureen Dowd): Frum and Coulter are already there.

Polls show only 50% of GOP support her

The poll here only shows 33% support at this time....the rest being negative or wait and see for hearings.

Since when should we need hearings to vette our own friggin nominee?

"prior to having hearings" ....do you really think the hearings are some kind of trial?

that GOP senators are going to grill her and Bush will capitulate should she falter?

get real...

the hearings are only for the Dems....the GOP will grumble a bit here and there and the Dems are only too happy to endorse her.....most already have....including Reid.

the hearings...lol....oh yes....the hearings will fix everything.
