or whether, as many Palestinians have said, including the late Yasir Arafat, the idea of a Jewish origin in Jerusalem is a myth

And the fact that they print this with a (typographical) straight face tells you all about the NYT.

Only Goes to Show that the Word of GOD is IR-REFUTABLE evidence of What Truly Is and Was.

I would say that the idea of an unbiased NY Slimes story is certainly a myth!

The find will also be used in the broad political battle over Jerusalem - whether the Jews have their origins here and thus have some special hold on the place, or whether, as many Palestinians have said, including the late Yasir Arafat, the idea of a Jewish origin in Jerusalem is a myth used to justify conquest and occupation.

Oh please, Jewish origin in Jerusalem is a myth. Eye rolling.

And not only that, the dependent clause "including the late ..." is misplaced.

Come on. Everyone knows King David was a good Muslim.
I'm just waiting for them to find the ruins of his mosque. . .

Tax-chick, you've nailed it. For the benefit of those on this board who may not know it, the Jews have been praying about returning to Jerusalem, every day, for 2000 years. When one Jew comforts another about a death in the family, the formula they're supposed to use says "May you comforted among the mourners for Zion and Jerusalem."
Those prayers weren't written, many centuries ago, just so the sneaky Jews could provide evidence in the year 2005 for their ploy to colonize and occupy the Middle East.
And then there's the little matter of the two Temples, part of which of course survives to this day. That wall is hard to dismiss as a myth too -- unless, of course, just as you say, the Times is as constrained by historical facts as Yassir Arafat.

Great news and fit to make for an excellent Shabbat. Thanks!

PS interesting that it's the first of Av at sundown. For those not in the "know" the temple was repeatedly destroyed on the 9th - same day as the Gaza pullout

Before getting too excited, people should know that this just a theory. Many digs are later revealed to be something else. As for me, if it is King David's palace that would be great. But if it's not, my postition on Israel is not based on the Bible. It's based on the fundamental rights of Israelis to live and live free of Islamic terror.

Hani Nur el-Din, a Palestinian professor of archaeology at Al Quds University, said he and his colleagues considered biblical archaeology an effort by Israelis "to fit historical evidence into a biblical context." He added: "The link between the historical evidence and the biblical narration, written much later, is largely missing. There's a kind of fiction about the 10th century. They try to link whatever they find to the biblical narration. They have a button, and they want to make a suit out of it."

classic arabian tactic of flipping the truth on top of itself to cover their own lie. "see you are the liar" they say. it is the arabians account of "history" in all the land of Israel which is in doubt, not Jewish history.

Arafat was once asked about the Temple Mount. He asked what temple? Where's the temple? I see a wall...there are many old walls. I see a mosque..but I do not see a Temple.

The Palestinians will not admit to the Temple Mount being the site of the 1st and 2nd Temples. They have even secretly excavated under the Al Aqsa Mosque trying to remove artifacts that might prove otherwise. Apparently archeologists followed trucks filled with debris to dumping areas where they began to reconstruct artifacts that had been disposed of by the Palestinians, those good and honorable people. If this is indeed David's Palace I will take my Sinatra CD's and a few bottles of wine over for a celebration.
