"Over There" on Fx Tonight (10 EDT July 27 05)

I know, I know...vanity!

I just heard about this show last night on O'Reilly. Steven Bochco promised a show with no politics that accurately covers what's going on in Iraq. The clips I've seen have looked great!

It's funny we all picked up on the way the actors talk in the show. It just doesn't happen like that in real life. Hollywood. Geeeesh!

So far the acting seems way off and the direction leaves one confused. what did he try for? a "story" in the movie or a "war " movie? It's failing on either...just really goofy to follow. This introduction of the characters is supposed to be making us interested...the characters don't look really interesting. I just don't think you can do NYPD staccato dialect of NY cops with "soldiers".

There are enough fictional accounts about the war coming out of the nightly news.

The on-going Iraq war as television entertainment-for-profit. Pathetic.

I agree! I will NOT dishonor our troops and the memory of our fallen by watching this program no matter how well intentioned it may be.

We are at WAR and there is a time for everything and a ficitonal account of an ONGOING WAR leaves this Vet cold.

That was my point. Well said. And belated thanks for your service to our country.

I'd like to know if they hired a military tech advisor who has actually been to Iraq.

So far I'm not particularly impressed. But not for the reasons you cite (I still disagree with your premise). Basically, the show just sucks.

Supposedly.

But I can't recall seeing quonset huts since Warren AFB in the 60's.

Also the dumb ass just had to ask about the sand storm. I guess that was for the folks watching 'cause you sure as hell know when a sandstorm hits!

What do you expect from all the FR'ers that fawn over "21"

Another show I don't watch, but I take your point.

My guess is the only advisors for the show who had been to Iraq are Sean Penn and the Baghdad Three (Jim McDermott (D-Wash), Mike Thompson (D-Cal), and David Bonior (D-Mich))

I have no objection to a show about Iraq ... but this one is TOOO STOOPID.

ROE ALWAYS allows self-defense. Blow that mosque to pieces. Where's the air?

One squad in one little CF to to isolate a mosque .... why, especially if this is sensitive. Not very effective.

Move 50 yards closer ... why?

The part about taking a dump in the dark with a loose perimeter and bad guys in the neighborhood ... now I can relate to that!

Go rent ... no BUY ... Gunner Palace. Proceeds help Fisher House.

Never mind, I presume you meant "24." Seen it a couple times, didn't seem too badly done.

I noticed that mirror image M16 right away too.

These guys are walking across a wide open field about a half meter apart. One lonely squad holding a mosque for a couple days? Calling the sergeant sir and everyone's got a nickname. Sucks so far.

And it looks like they did have a military advisor.

TV Series 'Over There' Dramatizes Iraq War Christian Science Monitor | July 22, 2005

The ground is hot, the air is stifling, even the swirling dust burns. But USMC Staff Sgt. Sean Thomas Bunch, a veteran of the current conflict in Iraq, stands straight under the sun of a cloudless day, undeterred in his military fatigues, even as the sweat rolls off his shaved head. Unmoved by the 102 degree F. temperature, he is focused on the task at hand: giving technical advice on the set of a new drama. "Over There," which premieres on basic cable July 27, is a new FX series about the Iraq war from TV veteran Steven Bochco. "Getting it right," Sergeant Bunch says, is his only goal. "I just want to make sure that none of the soldiers who are over there fighting would be embarrassed by what we do." More

The Rangers at Fort Lewis got to preview this, and they said they were portayed as murderers who fall apart in battle. One scene has a GI saying he slit the throat of a child. How's that sound!

That's a quick way to keep me from watching...
