There has been an explosion at Aldgate East underground station in London, causing the closure of the entire Tube network.
There are also reports that a second incident took place at Edgware Road station in north west London.
The Aldgate East blast was caused by "some kind of power surge", according to Tube infrastructure company Metronet, which is responsible for maintaining the Metropolitan line.
A spokesman said: "We don't know the extent of the problem yet."
A London Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: "We have just sent some resources out to the scene."
British Transport Police confirmed that there are "walking wounded" and said paramedics have responded to one report of a person classed as "life at risk".
"It's chaos, with people trying to work out what has happened," said a spokesman.
"All we know at the moment is that staff reported a loud bang at 8.49am. No one is sure what caused an explosion, but it is thought it could have been a collision, a power cut, or a power cable problem."
One witness said the packed underground train he was on was 200 metres from Kings Cross when there was a huge flash.
The train stopped and people were using umberellas to smash windows of the trains. Passengers were led out of the train by underground staff.
He added people were milling around Kings Cross covered in soot.
There were also bus bombings. Above ground.
Doctor: injuries include serious lacerations, including perforated ear drums, people covered in blood.
Witness on FNC says whoever perpetrated this act needs pity. I think they need killing myself.
I cannot understand the Palis celebrating carnage. To them it must have seemed liked putting a man on the moon.
OMG, I hadn't thought it through that far. Would they be that stupid? If it's found that they had a hand in this, even Teddy Kennedy will be forced to stop fawning over Gerry Adams. After the IRA's bungled handling of that Belfast (?) bar scene murder, I think it would be their death knell if they had anything to do with this.
Perhaps I'm wrong. They've bombed before and they've continued on. I'd like to hear from someone who knows better than I what the current situation is with the IRA and Sinn Fein.
Possibly also a message to assimilated Muslims (e.g., "If you assimilate, you're a target too.")? I hear that retalition against Muslims (esp. women) who leave Islam or adopt Western ways is common.
Unfortunately, the city is at a complete standstill today and probably tomorrow as well. Must be hell for the people still trapped in trains.

This remind me of just prior to 9-11 where the big thing in the media was shark attacks and again, they are a big item in the news. Call me weird, but a few days ago, I was saying to Mom about the huge coverage of shark attacks and things like that, "just like before 9-11, I hope there ain't a terrorist attack coming." B-P Sorry to get "Art Bell" here, but it is just an interesting observation.
Casualties does not mean deaths in this case.
