Quang Tri, June 30 (VNA) - An ancient bronze drum believed to date back to the Dong Son culture, which existed 2,000-2,500 years ago, has been discovered in the central province of Quang Tri.
The drum, 1m in diameter and 1.5m in height, was unearthed by some local people while looking for scrap iron along the Viet Nam-Laos borderline.
However, the locals then sold the drum to a scrap store. Concerned provincial agencies are now looking for the antique.

There remains some dispute over earlier Vietnamese brass drums regarding their date and origin. It would be interesting to see if these new finds help decide the issue one way or another.

This one seems very large, over 3 feet in diameter and 5 feet high.
How large were the other ones, do you happen to know?
I hope for the drum's sake that the scrap dealer is smarter than the ignorant fools who found it.
The previously discovered articles were about the same size. However, there remains some dispute as to their true age and origin (the government heavily restricts access to them and few outside scholars have been able to examine them).
I would like to see what one looks like.
