The UFO Phenomenon - Seeing Is Believing (Peter Jennings tonight - Live Thread)
ABC News ^ | Feb. 24, 2005

Posted on 02/24/2005 3:55:40 PM PST by traumer

Almost 50 percent of Americans, according to recent polls, and millions of people elsewhere in the world believe that UFOs are real. For many it is a deeply held belief.

For decades there have been sightings of UFOs by millions and millions of people. It is a mystery that only science can solve, and yet the phenomenon remains largely unexamined. Most of the reporting on this subject by the mainstream media holds those who claim to have seen UFOs up to ridicule.

On Feb. 24, "Peter Jennings Reporting: UFOs — Seeing Is Believing" takes a fresh look at the UFO phenomenon. "As a journalist," says Jennings, "I began this project with a healthy dose of skepticism and as open a mind as possible. After almost 150 interviews with scientists, investigators and with many of those who claim to have witnessed unidentified flying objects, there are important questions that have not been completely answered — and a great deal not fully explained."

"Peter Jennings Reporting: UFOs — Seeing Is Believing" airs Thursday, Feb. 24 from 8-10 p.m. ET on ABC. The program will be broadcast in High Definition.

This two-hour primetime special reports on the entire scope of the UFO experience — from the first famous sighting by Kenneth Arnold in 1947 to the present day. The program draws on interviews with police officers, pilots, military personnel, scientists and ordinary citizens who give extraordinary accounts of encounters with the unexplained. Also included are the voices of professional skeptics about UFOs, including scientists who are leading the search for life forms beyond Earth elsewhere in the universe.

The program explores the facts behind the enduring mystery of the incident at Roswell, N.M., and looks into the strange stories of alien abductions. Among the UFO cases presented:

Minot Air Force Base, N.D., October 1968 — Sixteen airmen on the ground and the crew of an airborne B-52 witness a massive unidentified object hovering near the base.

Phoenix, March 1997 — Hundreds witness a huge triangular craft moving slowly over the city.

St. Clair County, Ill., January 2000 — Police officers in five adjoining towns all independently report witnessing a giant craft with multiple bright lights moving silently across the sky at a very low altitude.

Today if you report a UFO to the U.S. government you will be informed that the Air Force conducted a 22-year investigation that ended in 1969 and concluded that UFOs are not a threat to national security and are of no scientific interest. But as one of the world's leading theoretical physicists says in the program, "You simply cannot dismiss the possibility that some of these UFO sightings are actually sightings from some object created by … a civilization perhaps millions of years ahead of us in technology."

"Peter Jennings Reporting: UFOs — Seeing Is Believing" is produced by PJ Productions and Springs Media for ABC News. Mark Obenhaus and Tom Yellin are the executive producers.

I don't believe in Peter Jennings. UFOs? Maybe. Jennings? No.

Currently Jennings is interviewing Art Bell.

I am not making any editorial comment, just reporting the facts.

Bell says he got into UFO's because he was bored with covering political stuff.

I really don't understand what you are trying to say. Are you suggesting that SETI have kept positive findings under wraps?

Now at the risk of being flamed into oblivion, let me suggest that the topic of UFOs is not something which should automatically be assigned to the category of bad jokes and one liners, because without doubt, SOMEthing has been going on for a long time which cannot be explained scientifically.

It is true that there have been hoaxers, liars and all sorts of deception from the very first reports of UFOs, especially post-1947 after Kenneth Arnold made his now famous report of unidentified aerial objects while he was flying his private plane.

Now a majority of Americans profess to a belief in God, and many FReepers likewise profess a very devout Christianity. Many of us happen to believe that prophetically, we are much further along God's Timeline (as detailed in the Bible) than anyone dares suspect.

Having said all this, if one believes in God, one must likewise believe that there is an adversary to God, whether you call him Lucifer, Satan, Ol' Slewfoot, the 'Devil' or what-have-you, very few Christians will deny the existance of an actual Devil, let alone the presence of evil in this world. And if we believe that God has prepared a place for us in His House, i.e., in Heaven, we must also be willing to concede that there is a place which is the ultimate destination for those truly evil individuals in this world, who will have no part of God's Kingdom.

Thus, if we will be reminded that Satan is described as 'The Prince of the Power of the Air', it is not at all unreasonable to accept the possibility that UFOs may in fact be of demonic origin. And why would the Devil wish to perpetrate such a hoax on humanity?

The answer is obvious: What if it is possible to convince the inhabitants of Earth that there are benevolent aliens who are just 'waiting for the right time' to make their presence known in an irrefutable and public fashion, to invite Earth to join with them in advancing our species, in putting aside our violent tendencies and readiness to make war, that we can do what they have done, i.e., reach for the stars and actually touch them, to become more than what we are, to basically live that whole Star Trek mythology and 'go where no one has gone before'?

Doesn't that sound wonderful? Of course it does. It appeals to our collective ego, and it makes us feel like we're really worthy, that if we just choose to accept the wisdom of such ancient entities (who will no doubt suggest that they 'seeded' us here in the first place), we can 'be as gods', and attain the greatness that we aspire to.

One problem. Such an approach leaves out one very important ingredient, which is Jesus Christ, Who IS Almighty God manifested in the flesh, Who IS coming back just as He said He would, and none of us will escape that Day, we will all be here, in one form (transformed with Christ), or another (damned and condemned in our sins).

We have no problem in seeing a literal war of 'Good vs. Evil', our own President has cast the fight against terrorism in those exact terms, and for the most part, we fully agree and endorse his views on fighting terrorism and the enemies of our Nation. Why should we be skeptical then, of a greater conflict of Good vs. Evil, one which is going to be played out before the eyes of all humanity? And how can we dismiss the presence of UFOs in the sky as being nothing but natural phenomena, individual or mass hysteria, hoaxes, and the like? When in fact we may be witnessing a cosmic 'psyops' operation conducted by that which is Evil, led by God's adversary himself.

Now I have no hard evidence of all this, no physical proof that would convince anyone, but it is a theory that I don't think can be dismissed out of hand.

In the past when this subject came up (Jennings liddle show), I mentioned a Professor David Jacobs of Temple University in Philadelphia, who has spent his life investigating the topic of alien/human abductions. It isn't something anyone wants to think about, most prefer to joke about it. It is no joking matter. Another highly qualified individual is Dr. Stanton Friedman. I have read the works of both men (among others) and I have found their research to be scholarly, well documented, and worthy of consideration.

Neither of them, I might add, buy into the idea that UFOs might in fact be something inherently evil.

My apologies for the long rant, now I'm going to tune in Petah and see what that dual U.S./Canadian citizen has to say about all this... ;)

Regards,

MM

Is this how ABC does all specials, with creepy music and oddly filmed interviews?

Showing the lights over Phoenix, now.
