  • Please don’t torture us with an X-Files reboot without Mulder

When Fox Television ran the “reboot” of the X-Files this winter I will confess that I was completely enthralled. Yes, I was a fan boy. I loved the original series, even in the seasons when Duchovny had grown sick of his job and disappeared for extended periods, ostensibly having been abducted by aliens. (Sorry for the spoilers to any of you tuning in after emerging from a time machine.) I even liked the movies. And the six part mini-series (now known as “Season 10”) back in January and Februrary was a great trip down memory lane which they clearly pumped...

'The X-Files' reboot has been a major success for Fox, but will there be more episodes after the event series wraps this upcoming Monday? While there are no firm plans at this time for a second round of episodes, with the ratings proof, Fox execs are undoubtedly discussing the possibility of ordering more episodes. Plus, the network has been promoting Monday's finale as the season finale - not the series finale. We said before it aired that we would love to do more, and we are over the moon with the performance. So far, the response has been really encouraging,...

We are three episodes into the new six episode reboot of "The X-Files," one of the past's best TV shows. At this point I have to wonder: What the Heck is going on? Mr. Duchovney's performance is so bland and so flacid that I have to wonder what is going through his mind. No energy. Reads his lines like a telephone robocall. Looks tired and bored. The plot lines are tired and the last episode featuring a "wearhuman" was so stupid and badly written I thought it was a put-on. Bad plot, bad costume, bad writing, boring and nonsensical. And...

The truth has never been more out there. Foxā€™s upcoming and eagerly awaited revival of The X-Files is updating its conspiracy theories ā€” only this time, the sci-fi series might cause more controversy than when the show told tales of government-aided UFO cover-ups during its initial 1990s run.RELATED: X-Files Returns: EW Exclusive PhotosIn the first return episode screened for reporters (trailer below), paranormal investigators Mulder (David Duchovny) and Scully (Gillian Anderson) team up with a charming web-series host named Tad Oā€™Malley (played by the usually comedic Joel McHale, here in a dramatic role). Not bad for an agency that is not involved or interested. As the CIA works for the President, maybe we need to thank Obama and Podesta for this as this administration winds down. At the beginning of the new "X-Files" miniseries, two old characters can be seen exchanging some fresh banter. "It's always good to see you," Gillian Anderson’s Dana Scully says to her former partner. "It's always good to find a reason," replies Fox Mulder, the truth-seeker played by David Duchovny. That spirit of reunion might also be applied to the larger "The X-Files." The landmark series returns to Fox for six episodes beginning Jan. 24, nearly 14 years after the show was last on TV.

Fox has confirmed that it is in talks to revive its iconic supernatural horror procedural, The X-Files. Speaking Saturday at the Television Critics Association's winter press tour, Fox TV executives Dana Walden and Gary Newman said they've been in talks not only with series creator Chris Carter, but stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson, about the show's revival. Discussions to date have not been creative in nature but logistical; with Carter, Duchovny and Anderson all busy with their own projects, the biggest obstacle facing the reboot could be finding a time frame during which all three are free. Twenty years ago tonight, I sat down on the couch in my little apartment in Ogden, KS, and flipped on the TV to watch the debut of a new show. Official reports in Britain show that sightings may be as much 'X-Files' as reality. It is one of the most memorable opening sequences on film: A small craft is being pursued through outer space by a massive triangular vessel, which passes over viewers' heads with a roar that made audiences at screenings of "Star Wars," in 1977, feel something like dolphins submerged under a passing aircraft carrier.
