STATE OF THE UNION -- 2005 [Live Thread]
2/2/05

Posted on 02/02/2005 3:43:44 PM PST by Timeout

The pre-spin: Bush will spend about 1/2 the speech on foreign policy, 1/2 on domestic, with heavy emphasis on Social Security reform. It's said he will provide a detailed tutorial on the SS system and its problems with a few details on his personal accounts proposal.

Laura's guests are said to be an Afghan voter and an Iraqi voter (too bad there's no Ukrainian wearing an orange hat!).

Should we start a drinking game on how many times the pool camera swings to Hillary? Hmmm. Probably not...it would likely hamper out typing ability.

Word on the blogs has it that the closing part of the speech is a hum-dinger. Set your VCR's.

Report here on outrageous MediaCrat spin before AND after the SOTU. Pictures and screen caps welcome.

"low wage folks who work with their muscles tend to be Hispanic, with a huge wage gap."

That's their choice in a free state. Their children will be attorney generals and ambassadores.

I guess that speech took care of any doubt. It was more powerful than everything done so far in the name of democracy and freedom for Iran.

I'm Canukistanian, I'm jealous :-)

Howdy, neighbor,

think of him as the 'world's' president - then he's your too!

Actually, Poland, just the other day, voted him "Man of the World."

Not to butt in, but Noonan also loves the sound of her own voice. A LOT! I have, however, heard her say some wonderful things about the President, especially after 9-11.

Peggy Noonan will be writing another snippy Opinion piece.

I have a funny feeling Ms Peggy will keep under the radar this trip. I don't think she had any idea the flak her last one would bring her.

She wants attention - but not that kind

haha......you have not read all the threads....it is not me who is obsessing......I asked a simple question of a couple of ladies who brought this up in the middle of this great thread......I did not bring it up at all.....and wondered why they were still harping about Peggy Noonan a week after the inauguration.......simple and plain question which was not answered but only to rail against what Peggy said like before.......and again, all I asked is why they were still railing against her.......look at all the threads, I posted alot of messages on this thread and after these two catty people railed against her a couple of times I asked why they were still at it

From my understanding very few. Even our own troops complained they were not supported by the majority of the people.

The casualty rate in the battle of Fallujah was higher for the Iraqi brigade than it was for our troops. One thousand out of two thousand Iraqi's joined us in the fight. Not one of the one thousand turned back.

From my understanding, the casualty rate for the Iraqi police force has also been high. In fact all I've heard about over the last few months are numerous killings of the Iraqi police.

Add to that, election workers were photographed as they were executed. Yet, the Iraqi's turned out to vote at a higher rate than we do in this country.

Millions risked their lives, dipped their fingers in bright purple paint and voted. Your "understanding" of what is going on in Iraq emanates from the MSM and is wrong.

Their children will be attorney generals and ambassadores.

Yes, and they will be good Republicans, too! I have second-generation Mexican co-workers (and friends) who are very conservative and very ambitious for their children.

ps.......it is not your grandchildren per se that I meant to forgive, but the principle of forgiveness.....what I asked you is do you not forgive others that make one mistake when their prior behavior has always been positive? This is what I feel the two gals were doing on this thread.............thank you

"why are you still railing over this issue long after everyone has left it aside?....

I don't quite understand your point. Who is "everyone". Many have not left it aside, as can be seen by the remarks on this thread. It wasn't a "bad day" for her, it's been a repeated pattern. Peggy has made her bed, shallow as it is.

She had particularly bad timing and particularly bad judgement.

A voice of sanity.........Thank God.

I flipped over to MSNBC and saw Ronnie Jr being an a**. Basically standing against everything his father fought for.

Seeing little Ronnie always makes me wonder how Ms. Reagan is doing. Made me wonder why BahBah Wahters hasn't done a followup. Altho, Mrs. Reagan may not want to.......?

Forget Bahbah......think Laura Bush.

Laura Bush should do an interview (or chat) with Mrs. Reagan........a return visit to the White House....two first ladies talking...about their husbands.

Would be awesome.

And I want credit for it. LOL

(Yes, osama obama looks like he is in 3rd grade)

Poor guy - ever since kennedy's mumbling, he'll alway be known as Osama Bin Obama/Osama Obama, etc.

He looks like a deer caught in the headlights, like he's thinking: "OMG, I think my bright star just went out. I'm sitting here, being controlled by a bunch of losers - and it looks like I could be a grandfather before my party will be in control of anything - if then. they're burying our party and this guy up there has just handed us a shovel.

I would agree with you.......so does Bill O'Reilly, Sean Hannity, Chris Matthews and Joe Scarbourough.....alot of them do........but what you said last is true.......Peggy has been for the Prez 98%of the time and two here wanted to still rail against her for the inaugural comments. Her behaviour over the long haul is a hell of alot more positive and consistent than a couple of poorly thought out episodes

Whoops. I stated wrong. You obviously missed the speech. I was referring to what the president said about "Iraqis earning *our* respect."

I thought that rather odd. Seems to me it should be the other way around.

Seems you missed the point here, and the speech.

The casualty rate in the battle of Fallujah was higher for the Iraqi brigade than it was for our troops.

Read way back. I was referring to the Iraqi people as a whole, all but standing on the side lines while we fought their fight. Again, this is pretty well established.

haha.......LOL......nope, I guess I'm not getting thru. I"ve admired her for a long time as most Repubs and many do here. I thought it was unfair for some here to rail against her still, like on tonights thread that had nothing to do her, and yes, if I see a loyal Repub scurged for a couple of poorly timed comments, well that is just narrow minded and inconsistent to me.......I mean 98% pro and 2% con.....I"m still looking for the perfect Republican too.......LOL
