Ah fooie on your Rush and Immigration!

Been trying to get our blowhard buddy to open his eyes on immigration for years. Whadda we supposed to do now ... congratulate the ole DJ for finally waking up?

Our idol has definitely had eyes of clay on this issue. When Texas votes to secede and re-join Mexico, maybe George Bush will suddenly snap out of it, too, along with that pack of idiots in the Congessional Black Caucus (aka the 2005 Amos'n'Andy Show) Or maybe they like representing districts with 40% unemployment.

Yes, and you can count on the fingers of one hand the number of times he has bothered to address the issue.

He prides himself on being a fluent Spanish speaker (the first American president to be such), some members of his family have married into the Hispanic community (where it is more likely to be a political negative for a politician to speak against illegal immigration), and he's trying to win the Hispanic vote for the Republican Party. All these factors let me have a pretty good idea as to why he chooses this insanity, and I don't see that he's ever going to change on this issue.

yep, it turns out that Jeb's wife is from and his father-in-law still lives in Guanajuato, which coincidentally is Senor Vicente's home state. If there is to be a continuance of the Bush dynasty on to Jeb and later to Jorge P., then you can bet that pandering to Hispanics will be a big factor in their strategy. And GW is not going to spoil it by getting tough on Mexicans.

Those who think Bush is doing this in order to get Hispanic votes for the Republican Party are sorely mistaken. Most Hispanics prefer tighter enforcement of immigration laws. Certainly beefing up the Border Patrol and requiring illegal immigrants to return to their countries of origin before participating in a guest worker program are not things that would be the least bit offensive to any voting Hispanic citizen.

Bush is doing this because this is his ideology, not because of political calculations.

Anyone who was convinced that Rush was just an RNC talking head afraid to speak critical of the Pubbies, turn on your radio NOW!

He is just now noticing the biggest, most threatening issue facing this country? Rush has been a big govt party hack since day one. We had to stop listening to him long ago. He's simply a fraud.

you'd never get that impression by listening to Hispanic radio and TV and reading Hispanic print media. The number one issue is amesty and how to get their illegal brothers and sisters "out of the shadows" - they criticize Bush's plan as not going far enough to bail out their illegal family and friends. And Hispanic citizens will fight tooth and nail against the deportation of members of their community.

I think a distinction needs to be made between legal Hispanic residents and Hispanic citizens. The Hispanic Poder magazine recently conducted a poll that found 56% of Hispanics favoring tighter immigration controls. Also, I wasn't talking about actual deportation (though I'm not opposed to that either), but about only accepting guest worker applications from people in foreign countries, so that illegals here would have to go back in order to apply.

20 million? Every report I see(other than the Baron's report you quote) says between 8 to 13 million.

LOL! Seems to be 5 *million* missing somewhere. Hell, that's only the equivalent of 5 MAJOR cities of nothing but illegal aliens.

The govt doesn't got a clue how many may be here, or who is actually entering. Sad. For all we know, there could be upwards of 30 million.

Who knows Joe, you all are for the staus quo of the current insanity.

Bush is trying to get the people who are working honest jobs(janitors, housekeepers, etc.etc) above board, and you fight him tooth and nail.

Rush still straddling the fence.

Rush earlier in his show today that we shouldn't be afraid of hillary and the clintons, but now we now we should be afraid of another Perot like character.

He's correct on this. The Dems are wounded and about dead. The only way they can win is if the Right splits into two separate factions.

Remember Clinton didn't get over 50% over the vote either time, yet still won. So we would have to destroy ourselves for the Dems to win.
