JMO, he's not as "serious" you seem to think.

I believe he's straddling the issue to keep you all somewhat happy, probably due to an e-mail campaign.

Doesn't bother me, just want to hear his solution, instead of marketing platitudes to, IMO, a small, knee jerk, reactionary, and impetuous segment of his market.

"Why would an illegal want to become a "legal" guest worker and pay income taxes, when he could remain illegal and not pay income taxes?"

And give up being eligible for all the free social services....

"Danm right, throw an other wise good person out of the country for the "crime" of accepting a job of cleaning your or your countyrman's toilet."

Okay, Dane, give us a figure. We've got 20 MILLION illegals in this country, that's a BUNCH of dirty toilets. HOW many would you allow before you speak up???

I expect an insult or wise crack, not a straight answer to that question as you've always done. Prove me wrong this time.

20 million? Every report I see(other than the Baron's report you quote) says between 8 to 13 million.

That said I think it is better to bring some sanity to the system and get these people above ground, rather than the knee jerk, impetuous, feel good hyperbole you and your heroes(Malkin, Savage) promote.(i.e(paraphrasing) round up the janitors and dishwashers at gunpoint and run them out of town, yada, yada, yada)

ONE MORE TIME:

20 million is the figure in the Baron's report. Let's say it's high.

ANSWER THE QUESTION, DANE, HOW MANY ILLEGALS WILL YOU ALLOW TO BE IN THIS COUNTRY?

Am I on trial? I am not one for theatrics(which you seem to have a penchant for).

I have stated that there is a problem, but dismiss your over the top rhetoric and hyperbole.

Like I said I think that it is better to bring sanity and order to the system and put the people working at honest hard work above ground and use resources to go after the scum who want to kill you and me.

That's about where I am too. I think it's pragmatic, has the best chance of passing and offers the most effective opportunity to begin aggressive enforcement of the laws. Those laws have to include stiff penalties (the kind that put companies out of business and more than pocket change to individuals) for those who illegally hire or fail to identify the termination of a guest worker.

Agreed. Those employing illegals will need to be prosecuted. Only arresting and deporting the illegals themselves will not stop the problem.

Considering it took nine years, I'm wondering at his motive for finally addressing the issue. Sounds like he's worried the problem will hurt the GOP. It never seems to have bothered him that the problem has been hurting the country.

Do you support illegals currently "escaping a prescribed punishment"?

Do I support "illegals currently escaping prescribed punishment?" No. Are they? Yes. Are they going to continue without changing the law? Yes.

Why would you think otherwise?

And what is your objection to changing a law that is being ignored by LEOs?

They will have to pay income taxes.

Sure they wiil. Many will, some probably won't. Even the nekkid queer guy Richard Hatch, who is an American citizen, failed to pay his income taxes last year.

There are always some who break the law -- that's why there's something called punishment. I wouldn't want to be in the (stupid) nekkid survivor's shoes -- the IRS can be nasty.

throw an other wise good person out of the country

If you're defending the abandoning of the national borders then let me suggest something. What if efforts were made to insure FAIRNESS for foreign citizens in THIS country? What if instead of making sure they could work in the hotel laundry without having to fear getting pulled over on their way home, they were encouraged and public programs were enacted to train them to operate cameras, and build scale models, design costumes and assume working on a film set? regardless of union contracts or rules? Then who would be complaining? It's fine, in other words, if truckers, right now, take the hit from a host of semi-skilled foreign citizens coming to live here illegally and drive down their wages as well. But what if it affected the Hollywood crowd? What if not just the catering staff, but the majority of film's own crew were illegal foreign citizens working at a small fraction of what the crew members earn now?
