Researcher Says Children's 'Tolerance' Video Promotes Homosexuality Latest Version Going Out to Public and Private Schools Nationwide By Jim Brown and Jody Brown (AgapePress) - A pro-family group is accusing homosexual activists of using popular children's TV characters to indoctrinate young children into their lifestyle. Specifically, the group is questioning the intention of a new children's video featuring those characters.
SpongeBob SquarePants, Barney the Dinosaur, Arthur, Dora the Explorer, JoJo, Clifford the Big Red Dog, Big Bird, Bob the Builder -- those and many others are among the characters starring in a music video remake of the 1970s song "We Are Family" that is designed to promote diversity and tolerance in the classroom. A special DVD version will be distributed to 61,000 public and private elementary schools nationwide, along with lesson plans for teachers. Distribution of the DVD is being donated by FedEx.
Ed Vitagliano, a researcher for the American Family Association, questions the motives behind the project. The problem, he says, is that it is an "open door" to a secondary discussion of homosexuality.
"When you go to the We Are Family Foundation website, there is a 'tolerance pledge' that children and others are encouraged to sign, which includes sexual orientation," he explains. That, he says, is the crux of the problem. "While we want everyone to respect other people's beliefs, we do not consider it appropriate for children's television to be used in an effort to indoctrinate children to accept homosexuality."
The pro-family researcher sees an age-old tactic being employed by those behind the project. "This is a bait-and-switch approach. It's been used for years," he says, "and homosexuals are now using well-known and beloved children's television characters in an effort to use [them] as bait and switch."
Vitagliano says the objective behind the video is to get children to the Foundation's website -- "and there they're given the full pitch about homosexuality," he adds. In addition, the researcher says he has been told by numerous homosexual activists that teaching tolerance for all people while excluding discussion of homosexuality is not an appropriate approach.
The new video, recorded in November 2004, is scheduled to air simultaneously on Nickelodeon, PBS, and the Disney Channel in March 2005. Earlier versions of the video aired in March 2002 and September 2002 via those same networks. © 2005 AgapePress all rights reserved. |

Exactly. This WeAreFamiliyFoundation.org site links to tolerance.org site where they talk about hate groups and it's all mixed in there. On their home page they condemn MLK Jr's daughter for being against gay marriage. They also assert that her father would not agree with her.
=== Guess who they suckered into supporting their cause? Bob Dole and Orrin Hatch.
I think perhaps you've been suckered by Dole and Hatch if you think they had to be deceived into believing the Homosexual is the State's Ideal Citizen.
Please tell me what the correlation is between tolerance/acceptance and filth/disease?
You may be right. I knew Hatch was there but I was surprised about Dole. I live in Kansas. That's not the Dole I recognize.
Big Bird IS gay
Oh, sorry. I refer to the unhappiness and discontent that lead pro-homosexual individuals and groups to sue governments for more rights, money and "inclusion" (which of course translates to "preferential treatment"); or in this case, to attempt to indoctrinate impressionable children, using government resources and government-sponsored access to children in order to do so. These are problems that will become worse in the future, imo, unless addressed frankly and without the tip-toeing so many liberals seem to find necessary when discussing the gay agenda.
Sorry, "heterophobics" threw me off.
Ping!
Didn't find anything in the link on this DVD to hint at 'orientation', gay, etc. Please give more specific info regarding offensive content on this DVD. It appears to be a colaborative effort of some pretty major corporations, and since Bill Cosby is on it as well I am wondering if there really is anything 'specific' about gay's on this DVD or is its diversity message not a good one to break down religion, color, race and gender barriers where they shouldn't be.
Racism=Homophobia, then the opposite must also be true. Are they saying my attraction to women who look like Michelle Malkin is inpugned towards another guy? I don't think so!
So their teaching sources and ideas can be from gay and feminist groups and their tolerance pledge can include sexual orientation, etc...but because the DVD itself doesn't mention it that's okay? I DON'T THINK SO!!!! I like Bill Cosby, but he is WRONG to support this stuff. The aim of the organization is to promote liberal causes. It is VERY offensive to me.
Exactly!
I've never understood the need to discuss one's sex life with an uninvolved third party.
It may not be my business what people do with each other in the privacy of their own homes, but if they want to bring their private practices into the public forum of my child's classroom, it very much BECOMES MY BUSINESS!
I agree!
But where do they find the time for this? They are, after all, so busy teaching science, mathematics, literature, history* and philosophy!/sarcasm off
*(the REAL kind, not the "evil white man" kind;)
Tolerance is a personal decision that comes from a belief that every person is a treasure. I believe that America's diversity is its strength. I also recognize that ignorance, insensitivity and bigotry can turn that diversity into a source of prejudice and discrimination.
To help keep diversity a wellspring of strength and make America a better place for all, I pledge to have respect for people whose abilities, beliefs, culture, race, sexual identity or other characteristics are different from my own.
So does this mean signers respect people who believe in female circumcision and that we should allow that in the United States? Should "cultural differences" be a defense for murder? What makes this exercise hilarious is that it appears to have something to do with a campaign from the Southern Poverty Law Center, an organization that spends an inordinate amount of time disrespecting people whose ideas are different from its own.

I think it is pathetic that schools think they have to teach tolerance and diversity in the first place. This is America - you do not have to like or tolerate people if you do not want to. Parents should be teaching children about tolerance, and how to treat others. The school's job is to educate not make people feel warm and fuzzy.
Good questions, and there are many more to be asked. This has liberal agenda written all over it.

Yep, all of the major homosexual activist organizations are working on this.
