They can't even wait until tomorrow, when the hurricane hits. THAT would distract from the story.

My understanding is that they will reveal the Kitty Kelly has vouched for the authenticity of the documents.

Their only way out at this point is tho cry "hoax" and claim they were duped. Pin it on Burkett and low level Texas Dems. Try to avoid any connection to DNC & K/E Campaign. It still looks bad on CBS, but not as bad as admitting purposeful deception on their part.

The only thing I could see today is that someone actually offers up who released the documents to CBS or they give out the originals (which they admit they never saw). Why else issue another statement. Maybe they will talk about the 85 year old secretary who hasn't voted for Bush and thinks he is unfit to be president.
Either way this story keeps staying alive and off message for the sKerry campaign and Rather's CBS news. I just ... I just ... don't understand this at all. CBS is pounding away at Bush's guard service but stay relatively silent on what sKerry said to Congress back in the 1970s. Very strange unless you are an infomercial for the sKerry campaign.

At this point, anything they say is meaningless. Even if they decide to open up to a full independent invenstigation, the damage to the Kerry Campaign is done. There will be more focus on this investigation than the Bush military record, and the public is quite aware of what has happened. All CBS has succeeded in doing is further polarizing the left from the right, but at a time when the right was at full strength. They just don't get it.

Have any big time Kerry supporters left the country in the last 24 hours?
I'm sure that Kerry has friends on Old Europe, who could host a hoaxer in their currently vacant ski chalet. Or perhaps Teresa has a friend in Mozambique who has a room to spare?
Ahhhh... you can have a good life, even while you're on the lam.

My two cents: They're going to say they're sticking with their report, come hell or high water, and this is the last they're going to say a word about it. Case closed.

If you ever believed CBS & Dan Rather on anything, why would you believe them now? And, they have no one to blame but themselves...their cred has been lacking for years.

There is only ONE thing that CBS could do right now to save it's reputation.
Replace Dan Rather in the CBS Evening News anchor chair...
...with Bernie Goldberg.

I'd like CBS to hang on to him until the election. Seeing a live psychotic meltdown and televised suicide (figurative of course)would be real fun.
