threatening website taken down by secret service
The horse's mouth | 8/30/04 | vanity

Posted on 08/30/2004 2:01:48 PM PDT by hershey

I saw a young man I know casually at a party the other night, and he said his website had been shut down by the Secret Service. He laughed when I asked why...and then told me the name of the website. I just about fainted dead away. The young man, let's call him Phil, acted as if it were a big joke. He said they'd come to his home, taken him away, confiscated his computer, etc.. Finally, after questioning him and telling him how stupid he'd been, they let him go.

Phil is very clever, smart, and I thought, responsible. He's in college, runs his own computer repair business, plus works fulltime. But he comes from a chaotic family, has problems with authority figures, namely his mother. A smart aleck looking for attention. But the last person you'd think was stupid enough to pull a stunt like this. They have a file on him now, if he wants a govt. job or security clearance, he might not get it.

Nothing can excuse what he's done...after 9/11, after being at war for several years now...why would he do this? He's a little more unwired than I thought. But if at some point in the future, he gets mad at someone, he's clever and nimble-fingered enough to put together explosive devices that could kill. Frightening thought, but true. So why did he pull this stunt with the website? Angry, and wanted attention, which he got in spades.

See post 7. I don't even dare re-type the site's name.

"One, I would have trusted with my very life - turned out to be a lying criminal. Another one, probably a psycho."

I've been sending money to a Nigerian FReeper for over a year now, so you've got me worried. But Donald Trump has been Private Mailing me during the same time, so I think I'm okay there. It's amazing how many other celebrities use his screen name -- I can't keep up with them all!

"Phil's bout of "information compulsion" was a lucky break for you."

It seems like when we have these stressful events in our national life, the closet liberals and lunatics who pretend to be conservatives or moderates, will often expose their true nature in a moment of critical disclosure.

The Monica mess exposed quite a few closet liberals in our social circles. Usually this happened when a group of conservatives were discussing Bubba and his Intern. These closet liberals would suddenly utter or shout a liberal mantra like "It was only about Sex, just Drop it!" What they exposed was the tip of the liberal iceberg they had kept hidden.

GW has this same effect. Something GW has or hasn't done causes these hidden liberals to just implode or explode, and their hate GW Syndrome/Disorder is shown.

My wife and I in the past week have seen two people lose it re the Swift Vets and sound like O'Reilly while suddenly dissing the Swift Vets. Both admitted that they would vote for anyone to defeat GW. Watch O'Reilly whenever he even mentions Swift Vets. He can't tolerate them and what the Swift Vets stand for. Even a professional closet liberal phoney like O'Reilly will lose it in a critical moment with the Swift Vets.

I'm surprised they let him go without filing charges.

I'm voting for John Kerry, too.
Er....I mean....I ...I...ACK! (Damn. You caught me.)

When Hillary's Prez,
FR will get shut down, they
will have files on us,

and Hillary won't
hire any of us for jobs
in her government . . .

Well, we have seen them explode or implode on Free Republic with just a little goading on our part and sometimes it was a solo suicide Zot mission by embedden trolls.

Hmm, this should be no surprise, of course. If Hill ever got to be Rres., FR members would be tarred and feathered and driven out of town on a rail.

thing is, he's twenty-one, sounds really responsible, and I'd never known him to act off the wall. But his family is dysfunctional. Parents....only the mom at home, his younger brother on meds that the mother withholds, or so Phil says, to control him. He had some really nasty phone conversations at work with her, would slam the phone down, trying to get his brother to move out. Lots of stress and anger here.

Right, clearly politics can make strange bedfellows! Phil used to laugh at my conservative rants at work. I'd think, oh well, his dad was probably in a union. I never clicked on Phil's site, as you say, don't want that tag on my computer.

He said they checked it all out and returned his stuff. Since I didn't go to that site, I took his word for it that he'd behave himself from now on. But, maybe not.

Phil isn't dumb at ALL! One of the brightest young men I've met in a long time. Self destructive, maybe? But can build a custom computer, fix anything technical. But not a reader, although speaks well, articulate, handsome, any mother's dream. That spatial relations side of his brain is alive and well. The other side has a big problem.

Exactly. Now he must think big brother's taken his freedom. I tried to excuse his behavior with, well, he wasn't around when Kennedy was killed, so doesn't understand how that affected the US, whether you voted for him or not. Then common sense took over and I couldn't excuse Phil at all. He's not stupid. A shrink could probably pinpoint what set him off and what he's likely to do down the line if angered, but the more I thought about it, and him, the more pessimistic I felt.

Happily, he's just a casual acquaintance I'm not likely to run into for many months, maybe years. I guess I have a few glaring faults...my eldest son, the leftist psychologist in NZ (who isn't voting for Kerry because K is a jerk, but who thinks we're a rogue nation...thank you expensive Cambridge education,) says I'm gullible and take people at face value. I admit to giving people the benefit of the doubt...at first. But you don't have to hit me in the head with a 2x4 more than once.
