Blue-state lawmakers want to keep Trump off 2020 ballot unless he releases tax returns

Lawmakers in several deep-blue states want to require presidential candidates to release their tax returns in order to appear on the ballot in those states, a sharp rebuke of President-elect Donald Trump's ongoing refusal to make his tax records public.

A pair of Maryland Democrats on Tuesday announced they would introduce a bill mandating the release of five years of tax returns, mirroring similar proposals in New York, Massachusetts, California and Maine.

If approved, the proposals could keep Trump from appearing on some ballots in 2020 if he continues breaking with the decades-long tradition of financial transparency and decides to seek a second term.

U.S. Sen. Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) in May introduced a federal bill requiring major-party candidates to release their returns, but that legislation didn't advance in the Republican-controlled Congress....

This would be racist! The poor minority that hasn’t worked should have to “publish” the fact that they haven’t worked. Talk about hurting self-esteem.

Oh yes, by law $1,00. Can you see the tax return .... he might even qualify for the “earned income tax credit”.

I seem to have missed it somewhere that conservatives are required to release of tax records if they want to run for POTUS.

Yes. A good case can be made that it is a bill of attainder.

They fear Trump for overcoming every obstacle put in his way. They tried lies, intimidation, thuggery, litigation and the kitchen sink - yet Trump continues to win.

Missouri “Scarlet Letter” Provision Found Unconstitutional
A federal judge ruled on February 18, 1998, that Missouri’s term limits amendment is unconstitutional. The amendment approved by 58% of Missouri voters in 1996 is similar to measures approved in other states, including the Colorado “Scarlet Letter” provision which was overturned by the Colorado Supreme Court last month.
The Missouri amendment required ballots to list Congressional candidates’ stands on term limits. Incumbent candidates who failed to support Congressional term limits would have the words “disregarded voters’ instructions on term limits” printed next to their names. “Declined to pledge to support term limits” would appear next to the names of non-incumbent candidates who refused to take a term limits pledge.
In his ruling, U.S. District Judge D. Brook Bartlett stated that the amendment imposes unconstitutional qualifications on candidates, violates the First Amendment right to free speech, and wrongly shifts legislative powers from Congress and state lawmakers to citizens.
Missouri’s attorney general filed an appeal with the 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, hoping to reverse the ruling in time for the term limits amendment to take effect when the candidate filing period began at 8 a.m. February 24. The full court decided February 23rd against hearing the case, which left candidates free to file for office without stating their view on term limits.

There’s an AWFUL LOT our side could do...although we don’t have the gonads - starting with prohibiting anyone with ties to groups that advocate violence against the US government from running for federal office or taking an appointed position.

Wipes out about 2/3’s of the Democrat Party.

Pinsky is a hardcore Democrat leftist, a sort of Marxist-lite.

Wyden has always been a hardcore leftist and a hitman for the Democrats.

The others are nobodies seeking their 15 seconds of fame.

Let’s see all the payments the Clintons got for their 20-30 minute speeches as well as what they said. That could prove to be both informative and very embarrassing.

And Nancy Pelosi’s secret real estate deals and insider information about them. The same for Diane Feinstein and her husband.

In fact, there are some male spouses of Democrat members of Congress who are convicted felons or who have been investigated for serious allegations of criminal acts.

Some Democrats should be in jail for treason.

If life were fair, about 1/3rd of the Democrats in Congress today would be in jail or up against the wall, but life isn’t fair. However, with The Donald coming in, life is going to get a lot more fairer for loyal Americans.

The requirements for the job are laid out in the Constitution.

Yes, but they were written before the Sixteenth Amendment, and not updated when that Amendment was passed.

Living Constitution, you know. /S

“If he’s not taking any salary, will he have any income to report?”

He will still be making money from the Trump Organization.
