Ranked choice voting could have told us this sooner
A new poll has Donald Trump beating Marco Rubio 44 percent to 28 percent in Rubio's home state of Florida. This is devastating news for Rubio. It also is bad news for the conventional wisdom that Rubio would pick up support as the field winnowed, allowing him to overcome Trump.
But had the GOP used ranked-choice voting in its primaries, this new Florida poll wouldn't have been that surprising. We'd have known by now that Rubio's chances were always poor, and that winnowing wouldn't vault him to the top of the field.
Look closely at the results of this survey done by the College of William and Mary and FairVote, which asked Republican voters to rank the candidates in order of preference a few weeks ago, when there were more candidates. Rubio's support was never all that deep.

Looks like Rubio is really going after Trump tonight.
Mark Levin speculated that Rubio would continue to focus on attacking Cruz. Guess not.

Rubio loves to talk, but he's never held any significant job outside of government. But he sure talks big about what he knows about polllllicy. "What's your pollllicy, Donald?" I got a question for you, Pretty Boy: how many jobs have created in your life? How many people have you managed? What have you built of value other than pollllllicies? Rubio is nothing but a magnificent office seeker -- just like Obama -- and maybe just as dangerous. |
Rubio was great in the debate tonight.
He is not trustworthy on one major issue. But Trump is not trustworthy on anything.
Hitler gave good speeches, too.
Like Christie landed devastating punches on Rubio four weeks ago. Look where Christie is today.
Rubio announced that was the case. Rubio was asked straight out if he was going to change his tactics since the ones that he was using didn’t seem to be working. Rubio said no, that he did not plan to start criticizing Trump and that he definitely had no plans to join forces with Cruz against Trump.
