Ted Cruz is freaked out about inflation. But there has been absolutely none for a year.

A lot of conservative voters — especially those old enough to have lived through the high inflation of the 1970s — are convinced that America is currently suffering from an inflation problem. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) pandered to those voters in a recent Republican presidential debate, blaming the "loose money" policies of the Federal Reserve for raising the prices of various consumer products.

But new data released Friday by the Bureau of Labor Statistics shows that overall, prices aren't going up. At all.

Between September and October, prices actually fell slightly. And over the past year, the inflation rate was exactly 0.0 percent....

A half gallon of ice cream is now 1-1/2 quarts, a 64 oz container of OJ now delivers 58 ounces, coffee comes in 12 oz bags instead of 1 lb, bacon comes in 12 oz now instead of 1lb. Most of what you buy now comes in similar-sized packaging to what you remember but delivers smaller quantities, but at the old price. “VOX” means extremist moupiece.

My Townhouse bought 4 years ago has gone up 30% in market value.

Food in Grocery stores is going up 10% every year.

Doctor and Dentist bills for same service are up 20% in 3 years.

Health Insurance is up 25% in 3 years.

Car repairs are up 20% in 3 years.

Property taxes up 18% in 3 years.

Proof? My family budgets.

May be each area of country is a bit different, and your experience may be different.

The Obama administration took gas prices and grocery prices out of the index they use to calculate inflation.

Have your grocery prices gone up this past year or the year before that or the year before that? Every year we are stunned at the rise in grocery prices.

Will your healthcare premium price go up next year or did it last year? Can you afford the deductible?

No matter how high prices go, we will pay for Obama to have the finest of everything in our White House and he doesn't care what you and I have to pay for anything. He is an abomination.

“...the things that are inflated in price from just a year ago.”

What about homeowners insurance? Our increases for the last 3 years were 25.9%, 9.6%, and 19.6% with no claims. Agent blames nationwide claim increases, replacement cost policies, labor increases, material cost increases, blah, blah, blah. We inquired about actual cash value policies. Agent says no. The company does not allow agents to issue “substandard policies.”

The food costs are amazing - every time I go to the store things have gone up.

The only thing we’re saving money on now, is gas for the car.

I think the egg prices have spiked at least partly because of avian flu; but the meat and fish prices are astounding.

Do not get comfortable with gas prices. Saudi Arabia & OPEC are pumping oil at maximum rate to kill the Fracking business in US and Canada. With economy operating at tepid levels, consumer demand is also soft. That is why gasoline is cheap. Once the Frackers are bankrupt, watch oil prices zoom towards $100+. By next summer, we will be back over $4/gallon.

Well, we’ve wondered how long it will last; but we actually haven’t paid anything for gas in a couple of months - small car, and reward-card points ;-)

That probably won’t last, either; but at least we’re a little bit ahead on one front.

BLS stats are bulls***. I make supermarket trips infrequently enough I really notice it. Coupled with just the usual generic CA legislative idiocy, you get stuff out here like $5+ loaves of bread and dozen eggs. Granted, I can usually find stuff ~15% less if i buy outside of my “1%er town”...

Food prices sure have gone up. Gasoline has come down quite a bit, so that helps. Housing prices and medical care are higher than ever, and if you’re lucky enough to get a raise, it’s probably not going to be very much.
