In every poll I see, Ted Cruz is a distant 4th, sometimes 5th. The guy has a very well organized ground game. He's knowledgable. He acts presidential. So why isn't he doing better in the polls?
I'm interested in opinions.

Trump is by far the best. He is the only candidate who has enough energy, fight, and other resources to reverse the decline of America.
Carson and Cruz are also good--but not as good.
Whether Cruz or Carson would be a better choice for Vice President is toss-up. I would prefer Cruz, but I'd be very happy with Carson.
I don't buy the "nobody knows who Cruz is" malarkey. He was in the limelight several times, mostly at odds with the RINO establishment in his attempts to shut down the federal government, and EVERYONE knew him then, if only to hate him as the liberals did.
I'm not saying Carson or someone else might not float to the top, but Trump would have to stay on top for a long time to get elected. With his mouth,....I just doubt it.
It's already clear Cruz is the smartest guy on a stage, but he doesn't get the exposure needed to be a factor yet.
As for him not getting into the food fight with the rest of them, if you notice, he hasn't said anything about anyone in the group. People seem to think he has some sort of agreement with Trump to leave him alone. I haven't heard anything about Fiorina, Carson, Rubio, et al. He's just a nice man that has been portrayed as a bomb thrower. If you stand before the SCOTUS, you don't want to call them names to win your argument. Why make comments about your fellow candidates and ignore Hillary? IMHO, this will come to the top at some point, when people are sick and tired of the name calling and want to hear more solutions.
Cruz is the smartest candidate with all the ideas and it will show soon enough. Timing the popularity of a candidate is the Holy Grail of consultants and so far Cruz is holding back, not being #1 and certainly not #15. As well as not wanting the #1 slot this far out, you certainly don't want to make news being #13 with less than 3% or so this far out. The first few primaries will cull out many and cut off money way before the race gets interesting. I won't get nervous until the first couple of primaries come in and Cruz is not in the top 3. If he finishes anywhere in the top 3 or so, the more conservative states will be coming up to make a way for him to slingshot to the top. This is the way it has always worked in the past, but we have not had a #15 person field in my lifetime before.
Having said all this, never underestimate the stupidity of the American conservative voter to eff up everything hanging on to Rand Paul or Santorum till the bitter end. You can already find posts here that talk of "I'll stay home if so and so doesn't win." Then there is always Bush with hundreds of millions of dollars available to take his 5% to the bottomless pit.
His voice is unpleasant. It sounds like a drill. He dresses poorly. His wife works(ed?) for Goldman Sachs and as much as many of us love Texas the last two Prez’s from there got us into what felt like endless wars. His money man, Sheldon Adelson makes people uncomfortable. All of this is petty but people ARE petty. Heck, a lot of women voted for JFK because he was handsome and Nixon was homely.
I remember reading that those that listened to the Nixon/Kennedy debate on the radio thought Nixon won, whereas those who watched on TV thought Kennedy won. Also Nixon refused makeup so looked "sweaty" under the studio lights whereas Kennedy looked cool as a cucumber.
Part of that is simply due to the fact that Cruz is a very junior Senator. You may say "so was Obama," and you'd be absolutely right, but Obama had the mass media and the DNC behind him as an anointed celebrity candidate - although initially he was probably being vetted as Hillary's possible VP and pinch-hitter for 2008 rather than the nomination. In contrast, the RNC has done absolutely nothing to promote Cruz's visibility, if anything, they have contributed to his low name recognition by focusing on their candidates of choice.
This means that getting his name and message out there is an uphill battle for Cruz. It's up to him, not others, to do it, and to be fair, he hasn't done very much to increase his name recognition beyond Tea Party stalwart circles and Evangelical activists. There's also the fact that he isn't necessarily the most charismatic candidate on the stage: he's eloquent in a very lawyerly way, but he isn't glib with one-liners like Trump or movie-star slick like Rubio.
All of this is a shame because whatever his flaws, Cruz is one of the best that we have.
I like Cruz. He’s the smartest boy in the room—except he scares the crap out of too many people because of his willingness to shut down the government.
You can call it standing for principles or you could equally say that he’s a radical anarchist.
The latest poll I’ve seen says that 79% of the American people don’t want the government shut down. Now that 79% has to include a hell of a lot of conservatives who otherwise would approve of Cruz as a fighter.
He needs to learn how to fight without the appeal to a shut down over every issue.

X number of column inches in the papers and x number minutes of TV news time and x number of space for links on the front page of a website near the top.
Squeaky Wheel gets the lions share of the premium news coverage, whether it be in print or on TV or on the websites. Reagan was before the internets but he was bodacious and yes even obnoxious at times (as far as the liberal media was concerned) He sucked all the air out of the room with good hard American talk. Which put him on the front page of all the papers above the fold and on the nightly news.
Trump paid attention.
Yea. I can’t believe that the media ignores him like this. It’s the morning of the Col debate and Fox mentioned every candidate in the debate except Cruz.

Ted Cruz is a constitutional conservative unlike we’ve seen since Ronald Reagan. The media, democrats, republican establishment HATED Ronald Reagan. They all threw their energies into defeating him.
National polls? They are a crock of Ca Ca.
Exactly the way my young adult son feels about him. My son equates shutting down the government to not paying your mortgage, which he argues is foolish and dangerous. He is not and never will be a Democrat supporter, but he doesn’t like any of the Republicans running either.
I have yet to discover a really good outcome for the Republicans— and America— if the government shuts down and the Republicans are blamed for it.
