Why isn't Ted Cruz doing better in the polls? What's your opinion? (Vanity)

In every poll I see, Ted Cruz is a distant 4th, sometimes 5th. The guy has a very well organized ground game. He's knowledgable. He acts presidential. So why isn't he doing better in the polls?

I'm interested in opinions.

1. Cruz is too conservative for the average Republican voter.

2. Cruz is still viewed by many Republican voters as a politician and they just don’t trust politicians this cycle.

Also, he seems to be a “bomb thrower.”

You have the best analysis. The ‘front runners’ aside from Trump and Carson are more or less media/establishment creations. Kristol still pushing Rubio/Fiorina. I do think Cruz supporters are steady and not easily swayed and are more than it appears. He may not win but he has my vote.

As it stands right now, the one thing that holds back Cruz, is that funny little word ...’Senator’.

He is an already established member of the bacon-wrapped shrimp plate lunch crowd. He is NOT an outsider.

I have heard him speak. To those of us with at least a junior high school comprehension level, we ‘get’ what he is saying, because we have done some reading of our own, and we double-check what he has referenced, as we should the pastor on Sunday.

“Trump outshines Cruz in terms of media savvy and appearance issues.

I think Cruz is the better Conservative.”

That’s pretty much it in a nutshell.

Most voters are not intelligent enough, or knowledgeable enough about the foundations of the Republic to understand his well reasoned arguments, so he fails to connect with them and instead alienates. Having observed a good number of friends/associates on this topic, seems to be two camps: You have intelligent conservative types who think he is the next James Madison, and all the rest who think he is creepy and talking over their heads or talking down to them.

All non Conservatives know about him is that he’s the extremist right-wing loud mouth who reads “Green Eggs and Ham”..

That’s all their “news” will ever let them know about him.

It’s a real shame that his own stupid party fights him as hard as Harry Reid does.

1. Media, especially establishment GOP media, totally ignores
2. Trump phenomenon
3. Carson phenomenon
4. Stylistic-his delivery, quite frankly, may not appeal to the less educated.
One thing I noticed the last time I saw him was a slight difference in his hair style.(the 50’s pompadour has got to go)

It’s still early and I’m still optimistic

Agree, it’s the charisma. Disappoints me greatly because Cruz is the only one that excites me. I may just sit home next election.

He has not been heard yet due to all the noise. Once we get all the junk candidates out of the way, Cruz will have his moment. Cruz is doing the right thing, keep telling the truth, keep taking on the media and the Party machine keep building his state organizations and working the grass roots.

Cruz is not going to get a fair hearing from the National media. He is going to have to wage a local campaign at the grass roots level.

Thank you. I would add one more thing. Cruz desperately needs the services of a competent tailor. Compare the fit of his suit to that of The Donald's:

Cruz has one big problem, and in the political world of the last hundred years it is huge. His personality stinks, pure and simple. If this was the 19th Century when candidates did not leave their front porch, and their policy position and surrogates did all the campaigning for him, Cruz would be the man. Unfortunately for him, he lives in the 21st Century. I hate to say it, but I do not deal in self deception, but his personality is so bad, it repels the majority of people. It is one flaw, but a fatal one. It is like a baseball pitcher with a 101 mph fastball who cannot throw strikes. Again unfortunately it is permanent, nobody can successfully overhaul their personality.

Agreed, now let’s get on to the next 385 posts about what Cruz said about what, mostly from tedcruz.org.

Lots of good points in the comments.

Cruz would probably be a good president, I like him the most out of all the others.

However - I think that he'd be a better AG. God knows there's a ton of corruption to be cleaned up in that department from current administration. We need an honest man to come in there and swing a big axe.

And honestly, if he made it to the Supreme Court, he'd likely be in a *more* powerful position than he would as president.

So - president? Sure. But I think that there are better spots for him.

Trump and any final GOPe choice will have a decent chance to win the election. Neither Cruz nor Carson will have that same level of connection with the general electorate, even if they get the nomination, as since they won't be the GOPe favored pick, they will be let loose to flail, falter, and lose.

I agree. Let me congratulate all the posters on this thread. I can't remember in years a thread like this where posters did not deal in self deception and dealt with the question on hand in a factual, civil, and realistic manner. I think we all can agree that a little self criticism of our champions can only lead us forward, self deception leads backward.

“Because the eneMedia won’t give him the time of day.”

I think you nailed it. Ted is never mentioned, ever. He is now polling at or above Jeb and still can’t get the time of day.

But I suspect some of this changes as the debates continue and others continue to blather. Can’t wait until there are only five on stage.
