Before thousands at sports arena, candidate mocks pundits who called him a 'clown'
DALLAS (CNN) - The ultimate showman ripped up the political rule book again Monday -- two nights before what is shaping up as a fiery showdown with his rivals at the CNN Republican debate at the Reagan presidential library in California.
Donald Trump walked boldly onto the stage at a sports arena in Dallas, which was transformed into a rally of thousands of fervent supporters, and reinvented the time honored tradition of candidate debate prep ahead of Wednesday's crucial showdown.
"I hear they are going after me. Whatever. Whatever," Trump told roaring fans, many wearing "Make America Great" ball caps, T-shirts emblazoned with his likeness, and even one woman in a paper dress with multiple photos of the billionaire.
Trump is not the kind of candidate who spends days locked behind closed doors, fine tuning soundbites and policy jabs, put downs and zingers before a crucial debate.
While most GOP White House hopefuls have light schedules going into the debate, the billionaire real estate investor -- who repeatedly tells people he has only been a politician for three months -- does things his way....

But I havent seen anything like this in 55+ years.
Its not a movement, its a Revolution.
Trump is changing politics as we know it.
______
Agreed, well, for 45 years that I’ve paid attention too.
Trump flipped the table. He walked in and said, it’s not about us against each other, it’s us against the world. It’s about what is good for the US.
The ultimate uniter, above and beyond the politics of division. Reputably the best negotiator of his generation stepping up to negotiate for America.
His speech style is that of a pitchman setting up to negotiate and close. If he comes to power, he will have a very strong starting hand.
I feel the same way.We are obviously not alone either.
+1
“His stumbling blocks will be Congress and the Men Seeking Men mediums. “
And don’t forget the courts - that’s where the libs will tie him down the way our RINOs were never able to do to Dumb’O.
“That was about the most disjointed speech I’ve ever heard in my life but, man, did he knock it out of the park.”
It’s not a speech - it’s a vocalized, unfiltered stream of consciousness.
It’s disjointed, unorganized, repetitive but it comes across as genuine and passionate... and it works.
I can just imagine what his first State of the Union will sound like. Anyone want to take a crack at it?
It would be a great skit for SNL.
This times 1000.
Having watched most if not all of his speeches (yes they are very similar) the one thing that strikes me is that all of this talking up about himself is to make people feel like they are on the WINNING TEAM. And it works.
The guy is a virtuoso of getting the crowd on his side. Watch how he throws out some disastrous issue like the Iran deal, says how stupid it is and how Kerry was an idiot for negotiating it, and then says something like "am I right?", not strident but questioningly like you would ask a friend, while he spreads his hands out. You can't disagree with him. He's not lecturing the crowd, he is talking with them as equals. Freaking masterful.
There is a difference in not having all of the details now, versus not being able to understand the details. Trump is a chairman of the board type of person, a big picture guy who knows what he wants done and will find people to get it done his way.
Do you seriously think in his visits with Sen. Sessions that Trump didn't discuss or understand immigration details? You want details, read the position paper. On the stump, he is all about getting people aboard the Trump Express.
Trump talks about his money and success because he is selling a product - himself.
So he says those things to let people know that he’s not just a talker, but he is a doer and a successful one at that.
Everyone wants to be on the winning team and/or live thru a winner vicariously.
Trump is very smart. He gets things done.
How?
He just does it. It’s really that simple, at least it is for him.
He is entertaining. I like listening to his speeches, which is more than I can say for most political figures.
“This is exactly what Hillary Clinton is not and never will be.
Authentic.
Spontaneous.
Honest.
There it is. Thats what it looks like.”
Well said!
The consummate New Yorker combined with brains , cajones ,confidence , bravado , chutzpah , money and love for the country . I have zero doubt that he is in this mainly for two reasons : one , as a way of paying back the country that made him great , and to make America great once again .
I agree, full of Trumpisms, “Huuuuuuuuge!”
But don’t you think the amazing thing was, that here you’re watching it on Greta, who breaks from some interview...and you’re watching it...then up comes BOR, so I immediate turn to CNN and there it is... and MSNBC and there it is... so as soon as one breaks you go to a commercial...and then he’s still talking... and CNN and MSNBC bring in the meatheads to talk about him, while he’s still talking. How long did he talk? He was like Castro up there. I think if they let him, he would have talked for hours...
And who was the guy that climbed into someone’s seat towards the end, Mark Cuban? It looked like he was trying to buy the seats of the two guys in front of him...
When it works, like last nigh, it’s great. Sometimes it doesn’t.
I think he’s going to win New York. Did you notice that the crowd was still fired up, after he’d been talking for over an hour. IN fact, how long did he talk?
Walker is kicking up the game with his non federal union pitch.
He can pick any one of them... even Carson...Cruz would be awesome.
Fox Business Channel usually carries Trump’s stumps uninterrupted.
“In short, he has no clue on the details of what hes talking about.”
**************************************************************************
Of course you haven’t a clue whether he does or does not “know what he is talking about”, do you? You do not like him and like the Liberals who attack him you use one of their criticisms.
Those more familiar with politics and campaigns understand that giving details to your plans and visions just invites the enemy to pick it apart. Trump is doing this exactly right so far.
You are correct. There are far too many people who do not understand what a leader is or what it is they do. The person who claimed Trump has no clue about what he will do is the sort of person who believes if you are the CEO of a corporation you should know of and be able to do every job held by any employee.
A real leader rallies his employees to find a way to bring his visions to fruition. His ability to get the most and the best out of his people is his greatest asset.
