Donald Trump on GOP attacks: 'Whatever';

Before thousands at sports arena, candidate mocks pundits who called him a 'clown'

DALLAS (CNN) - The ultimate showman ripped up the political rule book again Monday -- two nights before what is shaping up as a fiery showdown with his rivals at the CNN Republican debate at the Reagan presidential library in California.

Donald Trump walked boldly onto the stage at a sports arena in Dallas, which was transformed into a rally of thousands of fervent supporters, and reinvented the time honored tradition of candidate debate prep ahead of Wednesday's crucial showdown.

"I hear they are going after me. Whatever. Whatever," Trump told roaring fans, many wearing "Make America Great" ball caps, T-shirts emblazoned with his likeness, and even one woman in a paper dress with multiple photos of the billionaire.

Trump is not the kind of candidate who spends days locked behind closed doors, fine tuning soundbites and policy jabs, put downs and zingers before a crucial debate.

While most GOP White House hopefuls have light schedules going into the debate, the billionaire real estate investor -- who repeatedly tells people he has only been a politician for three months -- does things his way....

That was about the most disjointed speech I've ever heard in my life but, man, did he knock it out of the park. He definitely knows how to sell the sizzle.

Nobody can deny that he truly will do everything in his power to make America great again.

His stumbling blocks will be Congress and the Men Seeking Men mediums.

More like 45 minutes of just talking than a speech. But there was a method. He knows those people have heard him talk about the issues. So he spent the first 15 minutes talking about how great he is, how great they are, and generally getting people fired up, then started bringing up issues. And though he goes of on sidetracks he always remembers to get back to his original point. Call it salesmanship, leadership, or whatever, he has it down.

The last I heard Hillary and her staff were huddled in a bunker watching Trump videos.

Staffer:See, Hillary, how Trump was spontaneous when he opened his speech with “Wow! Wow!”.

Hillary: I agree. Write “Wow! Wow!” on a card for me, I can work it into my next event. And be sure to include the exclamation marks, I don’t want to get it wrong.

Inauthentic Hillary for voters who don’t know the real thing when they see it.

That style is annoying to some.

It was annoying to me.

But then I realized that this is what no teleprompters means. This is what no rehearsed or focus grouped lines sounds like.

This is a guy telling us what’s inside of him in a way that I think we are not really used to in this age of manufactured images used by professional liars.

This is exactly what Hillary Clinton is not and never will be.

Authentic.

Spontaneous.

Honest.

There it is. That’s what it looks like.

Yes, The Donald does things his way. That’s a strength & a weakness. Whatever he does, it sure is entertaining.

Man.

You post #5 and my post #6 are extremely similar.

I think we have seen the exact same thing.

This was a great speech, or rather, conversation. Watch the people, they are eating out of his hand. He IS connecting. Love the put down of Rove and media.

That was about the most disjointed speech I've ever heard in my life

He doesn't use a teleprompter. He's just up there flying by the seat of his pants and doing well.

“That was about the most disjointed speech I’ve ever heard in my life but, man, did he knock it out of the park. He definitely knows how to sell the sizzle.”

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

I can see why he’s a good businessman. His style must keep his business partners off-balance. You never know what he’s going to say, how he’s going to say it, when, why, or to whom.

Disjointed, yes. Crazy like a fox. But he made his points:

o Building a wall
o Raising import fees on companies moving plants out of the country
o Lowering personal and corporate income taxes (without naming amounts)
o Dismantling gangs (but not saying how)
o Rebuilding our infrastructure (but giving no specifics)
o A vague reference to “women’s health issues”
o Replacing Obamacare by creating interstate competition for health insurance
o Making our military strong again (without saying how)

Don’t get me wrong - he shouldn’t be specific about anything at this stage of the game. Great speech. Great rhythm and timing with the crowd. Like listening to a great stand-up comic.

In the speech thread, I posted that Trump looked and sounded tired.

He started off slow, unfocused, rambling. But once he started talking issues he started to get that fire in his eyes and he came alive and he finished strong and the crowd was loud and vocal.

By far not his best, but probably the best crowd reaction I’ve seen so far.

IDK if he can keep up this hectic schedule.

He should takes some days off after the debate Wednesday.

When he’s not on TV, he’s on social media. It seems like he doesn’t sleep much. IDK where and how he finds the time and energy.

I think at this point the only one that can stop Trump is Trump, so he needs to scale back his campaigning a bit and get some rest as this is a Marathon and not a Sprint.

But I haven’t seen anything like this in 55+ years.
It’s not a movement, it’s a Revolution.
Trump is changing politics as we know it.

Like a good story teller, he knows that if it’s done right, the telling of it can be just as enjoyable as the message.

Yeah, I noticed he seemed a bit tired. I don’t think it was real obvious but it was there. Hopefully he can squeeze in some rest.

Oh yeah, I support Trump.

I also still support Ted Cruz, but I just don’t think it’s in the cards for him this time.

I am not one of these people who thinks Cruz is somehow shrewdly playing this out and will win out in the end.

He is getting smoked just like everyone else.

Maybe I’m wrong, but I don’t think so.

I think two things have happened. Donald Trump is a political phenomenon that occurred in the right place at the right time, and the GOP killed itself by betraying its base one too many times.

If Donald Trump means what he says about making America great again, and about building a mighty wall, and deporting illegals, and I certainly believe that he does mean it, then I believe he should become president, and I’ll vote for him.

I think that would be a fantastic ticket.

I am not interested in any of the other candidates at all.

I am not interested in what GOP strategists have to say, not its “leaders”. Nothing. They are all liars and failures.
