Ted Cruz Is the Only Candidate Using Trump to His Advantage

The Texas senator has so far avoided confronting Donald Trump, and now he's trying to get the ear of Trump's audience.

OK, credit where it's due. Tailgunner Ted Cruz is the only other candidate in the Republican field who has reacted smartly to the sudden arrival of the Libidinous Visitor. While shoring up his natural base of support from the Bible-banging hayshakers in Iowa, Cruz also has refrained from trying to harsh the mellow of the Summer of Trump. And now he's pulled the shrewdest play of all.

The Texas GOP senator's campaign announced Thursday that he's invited Trump to join a rally planned at the Capitol soon to pressure lawmakers on opposing the nuclear agreement. The rally is sponsored by Tea Party Patriots, Center for Security Policy, and the Zionist Organization of America. "We are thankful for all their hard work on this effort and will have more details on time, date, and location as they are finalized," the Cruz campaign said.

This is a sweet move by both men; the Libidinous Visitor could use a little of the Jesus glow in which Cruz regularly bathes himself. But it is sweetest for Cruz who, alone among the single-digit crowd, has not yet picked a fight with the frontrunner, and is thus so far untouched by the Eye of Sauron. Now, he gets to perform his act in front of one of the huge crowds that have been attending the Libidinous Visitor's every word, and on an issue that does not necessarily bring out his theocratic side. He can talk about our great, good friend Israel without intimating that all the Jews should go home so that Jesus can come back and disembowel people. He can talk about foreign policy to an audience that, frankly, doesn't know much about it beyond the fact that all the Mexicans should go home, period. Cruz is laying in the weeds here. I think he's going to be the "surprise" of the Iowa caucuses.

Notice all the various and sundry protesters from that photo taken at the Iowa State Fair at the link? You don't protest people you're not afraid of.

I loved how Trump dissed Bernie Sanders for letting two black lesbians shut him down.

Been seeing more of these comments lately, it seems the left is trying to cause a rift between Trump and Cruz, attempting a divide and conquer tactic.

Could be wrong but it makes no sense otherwise.

It's only shrewed if Trump actually drops out, but I am thinking that possibility is rather remote at this point, (although I originally thought it quite likely).

If Donald doesn't drop out and he picks Cruz as his VP, it's still a lose in my opinion... because we would lose Cruz in the Senate where he actually makes a difference and he gets the loser job Biden is vacating, that isn't worth a warm bucket of spit.

Cruz is the sharpest knife in the drawer. ¡Yeb! is that old mushy salsa packet you find at the BACK of the drawer.

This queer knows his ship is sinking fast. Hope he enjoyed his 8 years in the sun he forced the rest of America to (barely) endure.

++++
Nonsense.

Cruz as VP will impact POLICY. He will fill a Dick Cheney role and will be the near automatic GOP nominee in 2020 or 2024.

It would give Cruz the position and experience to take the President’s job in four years. I doubt Trump would want to do eight years tied down to the White House.

The VP spot is whatever the President and the VP want it to be. Dick Cheney was a very important person in the Bush Presidency. I think Trump would have a very active role for Ted Cruz.

I agree with the headline that Cruz is using Trump well, but Trump is also using Cruz well

Trump has the Pizzazz, flair, mass media appeal factor
and
Cruz has the legitimate or well-established policies

they combine excellently, though we still don’t know what the final porridge will taste like

Drop in a little Sessions, Palin, Bolton and West for more flavor.

The trolls on FR have been trying that for weeks.

It is called synergism when two people work together instead of back stabbing each other.
