A Letter to Donald Trump Supporters With One Big Question
The Atlantic ^ | August 14, 2015 | Conor Friedersdorf

Posted on 08/14/2015 6:28:55 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

You’re right to mistrust conventional politicians. But why do you think he’ll treat you any better?

Dear Donald Trump Supporters:

You’re fed up. This much I understand. You’re fed up with politicians who say one thing on the campaign trail, like that they’re going to stop illegal immigration, and then do another in Washington; you’re fed up with insiders who rig the system for their benefit at your expense; and you’re fed up with coastal media elites and their insular subculture.

On some level I sympathize. In the last presidential election, I couldn’t bring myself to vote for any of the candidates. I just left it blank. I wanted nothing to do with my awful options.

What I don’t understand is why you think a President Trump would treat us better. If you elect the billionaire, what makes you think that he will use whatever talents that he possesses to address your grievances rather than to benefit himself? After all, he’s a man who has zealously pursued his self-interest all his life....

What the pundits don’t understand is we the people are desperately looking for a way out of the present mess we find ourselves in.One that doesn’t involve bloodshed.

Why does everyone in the US get it except the political class and their media enablers? We want someone who hasn't been bought, paid for, and given their marching orders.

For Trump, it's legacy. If he's going to be President, his ego would settle for nothing less than saving the USA.

It's desperation.
Having seen what passes for politicians nowadays, we would rather pick someone out of the phone book.

All he would have to do is a little tiny bit of research for facts instead he is hunting for emotional answers. Liberal!

For some reason this reminds me of Karl Rove begging viewers not to vote for Santorum. Hmmm

For sure. I'll grant the Trump-bashers that he's an unknown as far as how he would govern. But with ¡Yeb Arbusto! everyone knows exactly what we'll get. And we don't want that anymore!

Answering this question is a no-brainer. Maybe Donald Trump also abandon the people who elected him, it is a possibility. However, it is a certainty that the elected politicians will continue to ignore the wishes of the people who put them office. It is time for them go. If Donald Trump betrays the people as well, then it will be time for him to be fired. This is how it should be, when we elect people who do not keep their promises, then we replace them with others, and if they also betray our wishes, they get replaced too — as long as we continue to have a representative republic, which may not be too much longer.

But how can Trump do what he says he wants to do?

Well if he at least *tries* to do what he says he'll do, we'll be exponentially better off than with someone we know is only "talking the talk" in order to ultimately screw us over:

Boehner in 2010: Gives us the House and we'll put a break on the Obama agenda!

McConnell in 2014: Well, we couldn't do jack because we only had the House. But give us the Senate and we'll put a break on the Obama agenda!

These establishment types are nefarious.

Trump is a very successful man at the end of his life, who is staking his legacy on the promises he’s making running for president. I think if he gets elected he will do everything in his power to follow through.
