The first 2016 presidential debate got off to a rocky start last night when Donald Trump was the only candidate to raise his hand, signifying a "no" answer in response to the question of whether they would pledge to support the party candidate and not run a third party campaign. Although he was booed for his response he quickly rebounded. It was a night of bad-bordering on inappropriate-and irrelevant questions directed at Trump, the airing of candidates dirty laundry and the pitting of the candidates against each other.
Even though Trump and Bush dominated the debate when it came to speaking time received, there was one candidate who stood out whenever he was given the opportunity to speak. That candidate was Senator Ted Cruz from Texas. His answers were succinct and to the point. As is his nature, he never tried to bash or be confrontational with a fellow candidate.
There is a reason for Cruz's calm demeanor. Debating is his comfort zone. A former college associate told National Journal on Friday what Cruz was like as a debater in college....

He is my preferred candidate. I saw him field some questions in one of those in the hall interviews and he handled them well extemporaneously, and had the right answers to boot.
Must have been like in the presence of the Babe.
He’s the only guy I sent money to.
Because james the red skull carville is scared Shiitteless of him.
Heh, heh, heh.
Mine as well. This is one very accomplished dude and he has a whip fast mind that is coupled with an incredible ability to articulate his ideas. The man has argued before the Supreme Court more times than anybody and he is only 44 years old. The 9 next to him at last nights debate are intellectual pigmies next to Cruz. Notwithstanding the man will be one of two last standing. You heard it first here on FR.

His colors are red, white, and blue. So are mine.
Indeed they were. Cruz is head and shoulders above them all.
The left absolutely fears Senator Ted Cruz and stands in starstruck awe of him. His time (limited though it was) at the debate was well spent and he soared above the nine others. To elaborate further on how he has liberals quaking, here's what far-left commentator Chris Hayes of MSNBC said about him a couple of years ago, as the talking head put his ego aside for a few minutes and grudgingly admitted that Senator Cruz is a man of great intellectual heft:
In October 2007, I sat in the media gallery of the United States Supreme Court and watched the Solicitor General of Texas [Ted Cruz] argue on behalf of the state that he should have the ability to put to death a Mexican national who had been convicted of raping and murdering two teenage girls in Houston. He won that argument and he was executed by Texas on August 5th, 2008, despite the objections of the United Nations and the International Court of Justice.
At the time, I had no idea who this man arguing on behalf of Texas was but all I could think was holy crap, this guy is good. It was one of his nine times arguing before the Supreme Court and he was witty, incredibly fast on his feet and clearly had a brilliant legal mind. It is to this day one of the most impressive displays I have ever seen before the Court and I have had the good fortune to spend a lot of time there.
Remember - Clinton got the nomination in 1992 because he was the last man standing. He never led the pack. All the ones polling above him self-distructed.
I don’t know if Trump will take it all, but if Cruz is in it for the long run, the odds are that he’ll end up at or near the top.
Your lips to God’s ears.
I'm very interested to see how this situation evolves. If there's one thing I know, Cruz is no quitter.
Cruz is the one I’d like most of all to stand in a debate vs. Übershrew. He’d wipe the floor with her.
Made a "post debate donation" this morning - use the link in the email vs. your info for this one to help send the message he is trying to send.
Saw him in person Friday and he even answered my question on the Corker amendment. My preferred, too, but I will go with Donald.
“Ubershrew” (how do I do the umlaut?). Heh, heh!
I call her the Flying Buttress. She has to carry euros in one pocket & pesos in the other, it be so wide....
Anyway, Ted Cruz would debate her into shrieking nonsense within minutes.
And....I believe his recipe for `machine gun bacon’ just might be sending a message to the beard & burka crowd. JMHO.
CRUZ or lose in 2016!
CRUZ needs a strategy to get his message out besides the MSM media.
Yes,
There is a reason the Fox panel largely ignored him...
And, despite what Trump people want to believe, WHY the focus group switched to him.
He is the REAGAN of our time...and with more exposure, he will win :-)
I’d love to see a Cruz/ Lt Col Allen West ticket. We need some one who knows how to fight terrorist.
Then Again I think all who run for more than dog catcher should have at least 1 hitch in the Military. Starting as a E1, besides working in the private sector for awhile.
TERM LIMIT CONGRESS to 2 terms, cut senate to 4 yrs, NO PERKS. No Isle crossing. No Lobbying jobs, or MSM. Include the USSC, limit them to 8 yrs and then OFF the bench.
Wow. I can’t wait for the rest of the debates. He
is the best hope for this country. Great picture.
