Lee Bright, a local lawmaker who is serving as the South Carolina co-chair for the presidential campaign of Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), compared the calls to remove the Confederate flag from the capitol building in his home state to a "Stalinist purge." According to a spokesperson for Cruz, those comments don't conflict with the candidate's position on the issue.
"What Senator Cruz has said is that this is an issue for the state of South Carolina and South Carolinians to sort out and I think that's what you're watching happen," Cruz campaign spokesman Rick Tyler said in a conversation with Business Insider on Tuesday evening.
The shooting at a historically black church in Charleston, South Carolina that left nine people dead on June 17 has reignited a nationwide debate over the flag. The alleged shooter, Dylann Roof, has been linked to a website that featured Confederate imagery and a racist manifesto. This prompted South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley (R) to call for the flag to be removed from the capitol on Monday....

Well we won’t. We’re waiting for the next Civil War. The flag is a symbol of Big Government oppression that occurred after the war and folks see it ramping up again to intolerable limits.
All this anti-Confederate flag hysteria is just going to make the already rebellious south even madder.
It’s really hard to get behind a battle against “big government oppression” that was about freeing slaves.
And amazing to me that Bubbas can’t see that all these generations later.
It remains amazing how people even take the liberal progressive movement’s bait to divide this country over the most insane issues.....
Most of this stuff shouldn’t even be an issue at all....but demorats will always appeal to the low level thinkers and ride their emotions....then everybody jumps on board.

you don’t read very well. Sherman’s march, taking voting rights away, stealing property - all about big government’s oppression.
You are obviously anti-Southern with your stereotyped insults and lack of awareness of state vs federal rights. Just stay in Yankee land.
But the complaint is from those denying far more fundamental rights to their slaves! The bigger wrong here was very clear, but somehow Southerners on FR can’t see that.
I don’t think anyone thinks slavery is right. I hope not!
But the consensus I hear has nothing to do with slavery, but the jack booted thugs that showed up after the war. That’s why the South voted Democrat for a century after the war, since the Republicans were associated with the oppression.
Luckily that seems to have turned around.
That’s a sorry excuse for still waving the flag that represented the fight for slavery—150 years later.
And, I still have difficulty feeling much pity for complaints against the Republican efforts at Reconstruction—given that they were still having to fight tooth and nail to get basic rights and the basics of food to African Americans.
If that’s what led the KKK and all to support the Democrats, they can have ‘em.
The KKK started as a response to the crimes ex-slaves were allowed to commit without the feds doing a thing to stop them.
The ‘fight’ wasn’t to help ex-slaves - the northerners treated them worse than slave owners - it was about power and money.
CWII will start here in the south - it’s why we moved here. You can stay caught up in your PC version of the first CW, but people here know the truth and that’s why they are still rebellious, anti-bug government, and well-armed. Traditionally conservative traits, but you seem to be quite prejudiced so you’ll just throw more ‘Bubba’ insults and think you are being intelligent when you are just performing as the liberals intend.
Sure, there was corruption and it was a magnet for scoundrels. But the legislation that the Republicans were fighting for included the most basic of rights for blacks.
There’s really no reasonable way to grant the white Southerners at this time the moral high ground.
Before we know it they will want to ban N.A.S.C.A.R races and Country Music.

That's not what this is about.
The Confederate battle flag din't make Dylan Storm Roof shoot those nine souls. Not any more than his .45 Glock did.
Nor will banning the flag reduce the chances of another Dylan Storm Roof shooting up another church.
Instead, this is a campaign by the Left to embarrass Republican politicians and shame conservatives who believe the flag is part of their legitimate heritage.
The Left is imposing their Guilt Trip on the rest of us.
