In Early Polling, Walker Stands Apart
National Journal ^ | February 27, 2015 | RONALD BROWNSTEIN

After a well-received January appearance before a high-profile gathering of conservatives there, and several recent scraps with reporters, the new Quinnipiac University Poll put Walker, the Wisconsin governor, at 25 percent among likely participants in next year's Iowa Republican caucus. That total was nearly twice as much as the second-place finisher, Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul who drew 13 percent. Former Arkansas Gov. and 2008 caucus winner Mike Huckabee (at 11 percent), fiery surgeon Ben Carson (also 11 percent), and former Florida Gov Jeb Bush (10 percent) were the only other candidates who attracted backing from more than five percent of likely caucus-goers.

"All gotcha questions need to be responded to with ridicule and impugning the motives of the questioner."

Cruz is VERY good at that, and he does it with humor and without seeming angry or petulant. That is one reason I think he might be the best candidate.

I agree.

We should be bringing up Hillary's poor health, lying, and lack of accomplishments and experience.

Yes, the debates will separate the boys from the men. Indeed. Unless there is a huge disparity in money levels.

"Why would you want to do that?"

Cruz is a debating champ from an ivy league school and it shows.

But presidents are not necessarily elected on debating skills. Likability is a much bigger factor. case in point is Reagan. He was no where as rapid fire debater like Cruz. But he had the likability quality.

Rubio needs to relax more and smile more. That would enhance his likability factor.

Newt was without question the best able to counter “gotcha” questions.

I think Cruz is likeable, even to moderates and independents. That is why the media are desperately trying to define him as extreme and controversial before the general public has a chance to even see him.

"Cruz is a debating champ from an ivy league school and it shows."

And the media will never, ever let that come out.

Carly Fiorina handles herself very well but I don’t know jack about her positions. She has command presence, imho.

A good indication will be polls taken after 4 or 5 debates.

Either Jeb or Cristy would be better than ANY Democrap. Because the next Democrap is going to have to finish what Obama started, plus they’ll add to it. At least, with Jeb or Cristy we would get at least a slight brake on the Train to Nowhere that Obama has put in motion. A Democrap will be pedal to the metal.

I am sure GOP voters have figured out mild mannered country club republican are no match for the hard fighting democrats.

That's the problem, the American people have NOT figured this out. Look at the pathetic candidates Republican primary voters nominate all the time.

Tell me how Jeb or Cristy differ from the democrats, other than that “R” next to their name.

If John Kerry switched parties would you vote for him? He would have that wonderful little “R” next to his name! How about Hillary? If she ran as a Reublican she wouldn’t be a Democrat? Remember a few years back when Specter got Bush’s endorsement and switch parties right after winning? Electing Liberal Republicans won’t help us!

I WON’T VOTE FOR ANY LIBERAL REGARDLESS OF PARTY AFFILIATION! I HELD MY NOSE AND VOTED FOR MCCAIN AND ROMNEY! I WILL NEVER DO IT AGAIN!

Dole, McCain & Romney....3 strikes and you are out!
If GOP voters are that stupid, they deserve the job Hillary will perform on them.

But stop blaming it on GOPe as many here do. In all above 3 nominations, it was ONE GOPe RINO versus multitude of more conservative candidates. You don’t need IQ of an Einstein to figure out conservatives divide votes, GOPe unites their moderate voters.

in 2016, you will observe that only one of either Jeb or NJ Fats will be in the race for long. One of them will drop out soon after the primaries begin. Recall how Romney dropped out to clear path for McCain in 2008.

Will conservatives display unity this time? Do not hold your breath. Too much ego, too much selfishness.

Is that what you called it when the GOPe financed robo-adds and flyers during the Mississippi primary claiming the TEA Party would suppress black voters? How about when they enticed democrats to cross party lines to vote for Cochran?

You’ve made it clear Conservatives aren’t welcome. Many party leaders vowed to destroy their own conservative base. Don’t be surprised when you lose conservative support.

In case you do not understand, I am strictly discussing national primary elections. In the last 3 cycles, it was ONE SINGLE RINO versus multiple more conservatives competing. Is that too difficult to comprehend? Without unity, and running a single conservative in the primaries, conservative candidates will not get nominated. There simply are not enough pure conservative voters in the country to divide votes and win.

Do not confuse it with a local election in Mississippi.
Different situation, different issue. I did not follow that election closely, I am 3000 miles away in WA state. If laws were broken in MS, I hope you have enough evidence to be useful in courts.
