“It’s nonsense”: Even Pat Robertson thinks Ted Cruz has gone too far (Now Salon likes Pat?)

Right-wing televangelist thinks the Tea Party senator from Texas needs to tone it down.

It’s come to this: even uber-conservative televangelist Pat Robertson is fed up with Ted Cruz’s rabble-rousing.

Over the weekend, the Tea Party hero teamed up with fellow Sen. Mike Lee of Utah to hold up a spending bill funding most of the government through the fiscal year, protesting that the measure did not defund President Obama’s executive action on immigration. Sen. Harry Reid of Nevada, the outgoing majority leader, took advantage of Cruz and Lee’s delaying tactics to push through confirmation votes on several Obama administration nominees.

That particularly irked Robertson, who slammed “this Ted Cruz” for his “bomb-throwing” on “The 700 Club.”

“I tell ya, this Ted Cruz, a lot of people in Texas just think he’s wonderful and I don’t want to rain on their parade but what he did was this, he held the Senate open by his delaying tactics and in the process Harry Reid says, ‘Oh, we’ve got some time, let’s rush through some appointees.’ So they started approving one after the other, left-wing appointments that Barack Obama had made that a more deliberative process would’ve held up, that was what Mr. Cruz gave us,” Robertson said.

“This bomb-throwing stuff and ‘I’ll be a lone wolf and I’m the man in the Senate who is going to be like Jimmy Stewart and I’m just going to Washington to represent the people,’ it’s nonsense,” he added....

I agree. Robertson read this situation wrong. If Senator Cruz had let the process go full steam ahead, Reid could have focused on the nominees without the distractions. Cruz wanted more scrutiny of the budget bill which was a hodge-podge of spending that allowed executive amnesty. If the Republicans could have made this bill a temporary one to be addressed later when the new Republican Senate was assembled, the spending spree could have been stopped. Also, things like Obamacare could be defunded and executive Amnesty stopped. This is what Senator Cruz was trying to do.

In 60 days we will know what this Republican Senate is all about. So far, they are looking like they want to avoid a fight.

Love the guy but does he have any soldiers on his side? Every move he does, the “right” and left Palinize him further. Outside of FR, where could he get a ton of votes? When the media finishes with him, people of all stripes would be embarrassed to vote for him. I hope he has a way around that.

They did only fund the DHS through February but that does nothing for the rest of the crap and you are right Cruz did the job that the leadership should’ve been doing. Democrats know the importance of messaging and feeding their base the GOP not so much which is why they often get slaughtered on message.

My “holy roller” comment was directed at Pat Robertson; it was not directed at all Christians across the board.

I would apply that term to other televangelists of years gone by, such as Jimmy Swaggart and the PTL Club types. I’d also apply that term to members of Christian denominations who consider themselves superior to those of other Christian denominations.

For example, I attended Pepperdine University in Malibu during my freshman year of college. This was MANY years ago....decades, in fact. The denomination of Pepperdine was The Church of Christ, and many of the powers that be on the campus looked down on anyone who was not a member of The Church of Christ or who practiced their Christian faith in a way different than them. I was told “Catholics aren’t Christians,” for instance. I’m sure there are plenty on this board who would agree with this comment, but it is what it is.

65% of the freshman class did not return for their sophomore year when I was there. Most transferred to other colleges.

As for the popes....the current pope seems to be overly concerned with political correctness and liberalism; I’d rather he stick to the tenets of Catholic doctrine. I say many of the popes of the past were “holy rollers,” and by that I mean “holier than thou.”

Rabbis? I don’t know any, but many of the jews I’ve known over the years have been liberals first and jews second. Not all, but many.

Sorry if I ruffled your feathers.

You would think the GOP would have the Dem’s modus operandi down cold and be prepared to launch a counter attack. Not so. They never have and act like they have a fetish with the Dem Dominatrix whipping them like bound slaves with the Alinsky Method. Otherwise, they might be secretly going along with it and the whipping is just cream on the top for perverted minds.

Roberts is misinformed and needs to do his homework before doing his own “bomb throwing”.

People! This is not about Pat Roberts, Senator R-Kansas!

This is about Pat Robertson, a mega-church guy.

Too true. They also can’t seem to hire an experienced retail marketing team that has experience with branding and selling. Instead they run their campaigns with political science smucks that often are worthless. The politics shouldn’t be their problem. They should know what the hell their platform is and what they believe. They should instead focus on selling their ideas and liberty, freedom, constitutionality, keeping more of the money you earn, and strong families shouldn’t be a hard sell. The only reason it is is because they get their heads stuck in Washington DC think which is not how most of the country thinks.

Yes. I know that this is about tele-evangelist Roberts, and not Sen Roberts.
