Yesterday, Senator Ted Cruz gave a major foreign-policy speech at the Heritage Foundation critiquing the disastrous nature of what he labeled as the Obama-Clinton approach to the subject. His desire to lay out his foreign-policy views in detail at such a venue as well as his focus on Clinton was a clear indication of something that is not exactly a secret: hes planning on running for president in 2016. Members of his partys establishment, which generally despises him as much as his fellow senators and the liberal media, do not take Cruzs ambition too seriously. But as much as it seems unlikely that he will be taking the presidential oath at the Capitol in January 2017, that establishment should be a lot more afraid of Cruz than they seem to be. Anyone who thinks he will not be a formidable primary contender is paying more attention to the media caricature of Cruz than the facts.
Lets start by conceding that Cruzs well-earned image as a Senate bomb-thrower and his truculent public personality makes him a poor bet as a general-election candidate. Being a true believer is an asset in a primary but his uncompromising style wont win many independent or crossover voters. Just as important, Cruz not only sounds ornery much of the time, he generally looks it tooand in the television era its far from clear that Americans will ever again elect someone who doesnt strike them as being nice or personable. But lets put those issues aside for a moment and consider Cruzs chances of winning the Republican nomination in a context in which liberal media bias as well as the imperative of winning the center wont be as decisive as they would be in a general election.

You win the “Understatement of the Day” contest.
This is very anti-Cruz for Commentary magazine. Cruz is excellent on foreign policy and Israel’s best friend among the contenders. Lay off the snark pills over there, guys. Keep your eye on the ball.
Please no more Palin. She sank McCain and will sink anyone else she runs with. America is not ready for a Palin.
Not that it would happen anyway.
Sez you. If she ran as an independent she would absolutely destroy anybody she ran against. Don’t forget, the RINO party was complicit in screwing up that McCain ticket solely so their Kenyan commie punk ass idol could win. There is NO Republican party anymore, GET IT? It DOES not exist! You are being scammed if you believe it does exist.

To the poster who have written, “I stand with Cruz” and variations thereof:
I also stand with Cruz and will vote for him as POTUS in 2016.
I hope Cruz can talk over and around them to the general population like Reagan did.
He can help his Latino and white vote by talking up small business administration loans. Everyone in power serves the corporates...the small business dreams of America has been left to crumble.
We have to be sure the Dems can not cheat in the elections. The Rinos will join with them if they think Ted will win.
Globalists have a lot invested in keeping the Americans down and out of the way as they go about setting up world government, world banking and currency and overcoming our constitution and borders. Looks to me like they plan to take Israel out, too, and leave the whole middle east to Obama’s Muslim Brotherhood pals. Looks like they are going to let Russia take back territory lost in the cold war.
A Cruz presidency may not be able to undo all this, but he sure could become a pain in the butt and expose these monsters to the American people.
It was a given that McCain and then Romney were GOPe wired to get the FIRST BLACK president elected and then re-elected.
Watch what happens in 2016 if the dems run a woman, the GOPe will want to be on board to get the FIRST WOMAN elected president. They are so cutting edge...

I want to know what Ted was talking about when he *seemed* to agree that waterboarding is “torture”. I hope he’s not going soft already. Bob
Can anyone name a candidate who has a near perfect combination of intellectual brains and “street” brains? Cruz is in a class by himself.
I just posted that I’m switching parties. GET IT?
I don’t trust exit polls. And especially when you are asking voters a PC-loaded question.
You know they’d rather lose to a democRat than have a conservative in power.
