(VIDEO-AT-LINK)

Columnist Pat Buchanan predicted that either Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) or Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) would be in the "finals" for the GOP nomination in 2016 on Friday's "McLaughlin Group."

"If you want to get the nomination, you don't worry about independents in a general election, you excite the base, the Tea Party, the conservatives, the activists, the libertarians, and this is exactly what Cruz is doing. And I think it's a correct strategy as a nomination strategy, it's risky in a general election" he stated....

Our current head-in-sand foreign policy is the RandRon Paul policy.

Iran Stands With Rand

Buchanan continued, “the guy that’s going to do well, the individual, I think he’s got to show some real passion and fire and energy and ability to communicate, and there’s no doubt I would put Cruz in the top level there and the second one I would put behind him for rolling that route is Rand Paul.

Rand Paul has daddy’s baggage. Cruz would make an excellent attorney general...and eventually USSC judge.

I read an article that already identified 23 interested R candidates.

Given the 2014 elections, the collapse of the Obama charade, and the perceived weakness of the Clinton Crime Family, the Dems look a bit less formidable than it did in 2012.

Let the fun begin!

Cruz is a brave orator, and a master debater (so to speak). He won national forensic debate competitions in college.

Completely firm and unapologetic in his convictions. Eloquent, explains things well to appeal even to the low-information morons.

Quick on his feet when dealing with duplicitous, cunning Rats and press 'enemies domestic' in debates and question-and-answer sessions.

Great sense of timing and humor.

Can take a snarky question from a greasy pressman or Rat, turn it around, and jam their gears with the answer.

He is the MAN!

WRONG! It's a WINNING strategy. Liberal Republicans go down in flames in the general election.

Mor-TON!

Buchanan is right on this but I don’t think they will get it—One might become VP (maybe a good place for Mittens) I would think Walker might be the one. Hillary will fold but maybe be VP?

naaaahh... best Constitutionalist so let's make him President for two terms and then head to the Supreme Court!

Someone wondered why he seems to know the Constitution so well while King Obola claims to have taught it... he was part of a high school team that memorized the Constitution and spent four years writing it out for Rotary lunches and the like. Best constitutional scholar in the country and the leader we need as President.

I would wholeheartedly support Cruz.

I am probably in the minority at FR in liking Rand Paul. He is very capable at presenting libertarian ideas such that they do not seem at all extreme. He has sought alliances where he could find them- even with Bernie Sanders or Elizabeth Warren on specific issues.

Romney should not even be involved in GOP politics, and you want to make him vice president?

Always assume that the veep is the president in waiting, it doesn’t always work that way, but it it the proper assumption.

NO MORE Senators. We need a strong governor in the WH. Preferably Walker or Perry or Kasich. Cruz should get 8 years of gubernatorial experience in TX, then run.

Perry isn't conservative.

Any candidate that gets my vote must be pro-life, pro-2nd amendment, for private medicine, anti-amnesty, and for smaller government.
