Carson, Jeb, Rand, Huckabee: Of 13 possible GOP presidential contenders in 2016, who's your pick?
The Huntsville Times ^ | November 29, 2014 | Leada Gore

With the GOP poised to take over the Senate and strengthen its control of the House in January, all eyes are now turning to 2016's presidential race. And while Democrats have a single strong contender - paging Hillary Clinton - the Republican side remains up in the air.

The Hill recently listed what 16 possible presidential contenders in what one strategist described as the "most open field we've ever seen."

Here's the likely contenders in the class of 2016:

First String

Sen. Rand Paul (Ky.) - One of the most recognizable names in the field, Paul he's comfortable in front of the camera and has the policy chops to back it up. It helps to be seen as a somewhat of an outsider, too.

Gov. Chris Christie (N.J.) - Christie is still a name to be reckoned with even as his image has taken hits from his own home state.

Former Gov. Jeb Bush (Fla.) - There's no better name recognition than "Bush." He has the family legacy on his side, but faces tough questions from GOP stalwarts on his immigration stands....

First tier the only choice I could vote for is Cruz. Carson lost me on gun control. The rest in the first tier are Liberals with -R. Second tier choice is Walker.

Then they will lose. Liberal republicans don't get elected president. I certainly wouldn't vote for that ticket.

I’ve been skeptical that his father fought for Castro, but I’ve seen it repeated a number of places, so I wasn’t sure.

From Wikipedia...

Cruz's father, who was born in 1939 in Matanzas, Cuba,[20][21] as Robert T. Garrett of the Dallas Morning News has described, "suffered beatings and imprisonment for protesting the oppressive regime"[20][25] of dictator Fulgencio Batista. He fought for Fidel Castro in the Cuban Revolution[26][27] when he was 14 years old, but "didn't know Castro was a Communist."[28] A few years later he became a staunch critic of Castro when "the rebel leader took control and began seizing private property and suppressing dissent."[20][29] The elder Cruz fled Cuba in 1957...at the age of 18.

So, yes, Cruz' dad did fight for Castro...when he was very young...but not for long.

The one most likely to win. We can’t afford a liberal Democrat in office for the next 4-8 years.

That's about where I am. Pretty much any Republican is better than any Democrat. I draw the line, though, at pro-abort or pro-homo marriage; I can't vote for anyone who supports those things.

Cool. Back when CARTER was running, and I did not know who the RINOs was running yet, I thought about writing Pat in. I was in Germany at the time.

"whoever libs hate the most. Whoever they are most vicious about you know that is the right choice."

You definitely have the best way to figure out who to vote for.

Also pretty obvious who the libs hate/fear the most- it's the same person the Gope hates and fears the most.

The idea that all who look likely are actually going to get into the race is evident now is absurd. That there may be others who might be more appealing is possible, but unlikely.

I like Cruz though his status as a Harvard graduate concerns me.
(Harvard and Yale men/women have gotten us into the current mess and are unlikely to get us out)

Rand Paul has possibilities but I remain unconvinced at this time.

Rick Perry is a possibility but again I am unconvinced.

Rick Scott of Wisc.has possibilities too, but he’s got an immigration stance problem.

Kaisich was a good leader in the House of Rep and done well as Governor. He’s in the “maybe” column but think he may go soft on immigration.

The others are a firm .. NO THANKS.

“Dr. Carson is a plus for us, but his demeanor is too soft.”

I think a soft demeanor is the persona he presents on TV interviews, but underneath I believe there’s more. Did you see “Gifted Hands”? He can rile up easily but has learned to keep that in check. With the right circumstances he can probably kick ass.

He’s smart and a quick study so could accomplish anything given the correct information and the right staff to implement his ideas.

Still... isn’t he for gun control? That’s not acceptable in any way for a GOP candidate. I think he’s pro abortion, too.

I’d go for Palin, Cruz, Gowdy, Walker.
